Definative Prepper airgun?

Thought this might be a better idea instead of highjacking the other thread.

If you could only grap one air gun on the way out of the door, which would it be and why?

My thoughts have been with a crossman ratcatcher for a while as it breaks down, but mabie thats just asking for trouble with too many bits to go wrong?

I suppose it should be the most bombproof gun you can get, what are your thouts?

I'm thinking its time for an air rifle, but there have been alot of changes since i last did it.

Is there a definative rifle for the prepper, or am i asking for a fight?

I'm thinking not gas as you may eventually run out?

I would recommend the Weihrauch HW77 or 97K. This is a spring gun. Match this with a Hawke Scope and you can’t go wrong. I have owned the HW77 model for 20 years. It’s a heavy gun but the quality of build is second to none. You will take rabbits at 25m with no problems.
Don’t exclude gas as you can use a stirrup pump, as I do. Once again I would recommend the HW100. I treated myself to one a couple of years ago and it’s the best air rifle I have ever owned. Many shooters will have their own favourites these are mine.

en I have a hand full of air guns both pcp and spring

For most power a accuracy it would be my hw100k but its pcp I feel a Springer is a much better route to go I have a reworked Chinese smk b2 its stock has been cut to a pistol type and the barrel and cocking lever shortened it fits in my bob and is ideal for close range rabbits and birds its power has been upped with some work but that's for me to know

The gun I would grab is my bsa meteor its small light full power performance and easy maintenance plus accuracy makes it the perfect weapon in a shtf case

What version Meteor do you have and i'm assuming it would be .22?

It's a mk4 I think I have had it years its provided loads of fresh rabbit dinners and pigeon too its a .22 I replaced the breech seal a couple of weeks ago that's the first part its ever had fitted, parts are dirt cheap too seal was 2 quid lol

I've asked this question to a few friends who have airguns and this Weihrauch HW77 always comes up, its a bit out of my price range at the minute, but will have to work it out.

I wonder what everyone else would suggest?

Hi, if you search for Gunstar on the Google you will find out what prices people are selling them for. I have an HW95K and an HW100 Sporter which are both excellent air rifles. What you end up with depends a lot on how much you are willing to spend; what you want to do with the rifle and what experience you have. If it's bunnies and the like and you are confident of a clean shot then a good springer like the HW95 or the HW77 (or for that matter most Weirachs) are superb but if you are less experienced and might need a second shot then a PCP (pre charged) rifle with a magazine is more likely to bag you a meal: the long eared ones tend to run like heck once they hear the pellet wizz past them and cocking a springer and re-loading is fairly noisey and time consuming - before you know it the rabbit would have made its exit and you will be left hungry

There are guys in our gun club who would swear by Air Arms S400 which are pre-charged single shot rifles; the S410 is a multi shot version of the same and they are not as expensive as the HW100. Whatever rifle you get, if the scope is rubbish or you haven't set it up properly and zeroed it in to a typical range then you will get nowhere so my advise would be (as usual) get yourself along to a local club, http://www.BASC.org.uk can help direct you to one. You will find not only great advice but guns to try and often for sale at good prices and you'll have a safe place to learn to shoot and make owning an air rifle worthwhile.

For prepping, I think I have two good rifles that would help feed my family and if that's all you want to have it for then I think you couldn't go far wrong with any of the two. If I was running out the door ..... hmmmm .... It would have to be the HW95... plenty of power and easy to cock.

Yeah your probably right but it was the best way to get good opinions.

Looks like i just bagged an SMK XS15 for £35.

Im sure this is not anyones choice of bug out gun, but as i have no other its a good start and a good one to train the kids up on
