Quality warm blankets
Hey guys I have some I think nice ex British army blankets, whilst they look all nice I don't find them that warm. Could anyone who has used any others point me in the right direction. Not fussed about colour just warmth. I have 2 of the I think ex British army ones and they are not as good as I thought. Cheers

The two things to look for are fibre (the more wool the better) and weight (heavier ones are thicker for a given size).
My two favourite re-enactment blankets are Whitney and are around 96x72 inches, one weighs in at roughly 6lbs (which is heavy for the period, but I'm a soft modern bloke with a car).

I have some Whitney blankets, they are fantastic. A lady gave them to me years ago and they've been a godsend.

Wool blankets are a strange thing I don't usually find them "that" warm on their own... Think back to how great Grandma would have made a bed for a cold night in a single glazed draughty bedroom window and open fire place . .
Old horse hair mattress
Proper flannelette sheets mattress and first top layer
Then a cellular blanket wool blanket then often a decorative "quilt" or sheepskin on top

One bonus is wool retains heat if damp what are you using them for? They are good but don't work miracles.. bit like having the best sleeping bag on the market and putting it on a air bed. ..
Then look at the "room" they didn't have draylon curtains for looks they kept the cold out way better than these modern "thermal" curtains or window blinds

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Interesting design that. I have been watching a programme about Auschwitz, and that smock looks a bit like what the poor inmates wore.pseudonym wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 2:17 pm My mate used to make smocks out of them:

It depended on the supply of surplus TBH. He wouldn't use less than perfect blankets and that supply ran out.

Sounds daft but one of the warmest blankets I owned is one my sister crocheted me
