What type of radio. Solar or wind up?

Post by Lemne »

Hi. First post. I am looking for an emergency radio which doesn't need electric or batteries and can also charge phones. I was looking at a wind up version but read that you have to wind it regularly or the internal battery goes. It would be just my luck that I would forget to wind it right before I needed it.

I'm moving towards a solar version but is that viable in the UK weather? Can anybody offer advice on my best option for the UK weather with our varied seasons?

Hi from the wrong side of the Pennines (though I’m a Darwener). I bought one like this. There are lots similar out there. Mine has AM FM and SW. It’s OK. Solar, windup and mains rechargeable. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Emergency-Flas ... 1JRDKS8XHC

Hi. And thank you for answering form the wrong side of the Pennines :) There's nothing like us northern folk to keep a grudge going!

I've looked at these but wondered about them being a bit flimsy. I will have another look though.

Bet he's stood on top of Darwen tower peering east to spot the invaders  (bit of a hike up to that)

Get a radio that takes aa batteries...

Few packs of lithium as batteries store well...

Along with some rechargeable aa batteries and a range of chargers (mains / 12v (if you've got a car?) / solar)

Then similar for phones / usb decent usb solar charger and a few power banks

Ps up the white rose
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
