Surely that would depend on the situation (even assuming it happened), I have all sorts of gear that would be useful for prepping in one way or another but I'd be waiting to see what occurred before packing a bag and leaving home post 'situation'. I can see scenarios where they would be useful right enough but in others they would be a fair bit of weight for maybe not much use.

Saying that, I don't have a 'bug out bag', I personally think I'm unlikely to need one but I could throw a few together if required. I do have a GHB bag though, which is for when I'm more than a long walk away from home. I can't always take it with me though and have to 'risk assess' stuff. This is where knowledge & planning comes in, and EDC of course.

Bugging out is my worst case scenario, last option and would involve hiking about 20 miles or so to a family members house. My fiancé has her own bob too. Even my dog has a bob, she has a backpack with her food packed in it and she wears it quite happily.

Consider the situation of an EMP then my house is burned to the ground due to a neighbors stupidity.... there won’t be any hotels open and if there are they won’t have rooms available for too long. This is maybe unlikely but possible.

The merits of bolt cutters I won’t go into as I’m sure you can imagine. I agree the weight would be excessive but if my partner is traveling with me then we split the weight with more ease, we only need one tent and one cook set between us for example.

That's a point or a similar point brought up elseware . Having a decent lock might stop someone getting in but it may also advertise that there might be something worth trying to break in for.
