Merino wool sock recommendations please

Can anyone recommend decent merino wool socks please. By choice I spend 80% of my time barefoot, but when I do wear footwear it tends to be military style boots with merino wool socks. The ones I have always rub into holes at the top of the heel despite being reinforced and it really irks me to throw them away when the rest of the sock is still in good condition so thought I would try a different kind. They will need to be available in small sizes and with not too tight elastic around the ankle/calf. I asked my Mum who is a keen walker and she suggested I darn them, even offered to lend me her antique darning mushroom. Now I am sure there are some very handy/thrift folk out there who would suggest this too, sadly I am not so inclined.

You could give darning them a try? And I seem to recall reading somewhere that if the area that wears is darned before it wears, it lasts longer!

I use those Darn Tough socks myself. Buy them from Trekitt. Make myself buy from small uk business now. Just bought 10 pairs over xmas
