One way and another,my life is non stop aggravation! This morning I was in the yard sawing logs and I could smell acrid smoke from the street at the side of the house.I thought it was my neighbour burning crap again.Then my Wife shouted from the backdoor,"move your car,the one next to it is on fire!".I grabbed the 2 kg powder extinguisher from the workshop,and another from the kitchen.

Sure enough there was a car on fire,next to mine! I moved it pronto ( no damage) and Ian,whose house the burner was outside,was hosing the bonnet to cool it,as his windows were at risk of going in with the heat,along with his van too! Mrs J came round with another extinguisher and I dumped all three under the bonnet.It did the job well,especially as the car was really going up.At that point ,the Fire Brigade arrived and all was well.

I had only been considering renewing the extinguishers last week,so this made the decision for me.I replaced them inside an hour ( when youngest heard of the drama,she was worried we had no fire protection),as it is Murphy's Law that we would need them if we did not have them!

Anyhow,if you ain't got at least one fire extinguisher, then get one.I picked mine up from Screwfix for £27 each,but you can get 1 kg ones for £15,and cheaper still on e bay.No excuses.https://www.screwfix.com/c/safety-workw ... /cat850352

you did well , most are usually not much good on car fires .
i have a couple of 2kg co2 as well .
i got mine from the company that services our garage ones , for around 15 pound each .

They were dry powder,apparently not meant for car fires- but they worked well enough.Ian and I were worried about the fuel tank catching fire.Indeed,there was no time to waste.Oh yes! Have you all got a fire blanket as well?

i have to admit , we dont have one of those .

Ian my neighbour,has just been round for a beer.We both commented upon who can be relied on in an emergency in the neighborhood. It's me and him!

ABC POWDER is one of the best on car fires imo!

Yes it's messy but it has a quick knock down and is frost proof unlike AFFFOAM where you need to get to the fire base to attack it

I've got a 6kg powder in the shed

2 kg in the garden

2ltr afff + wet chemical additives in the kitchen (class A ,B , F ) along with a 1m2 blanket

1kg power upstairs landing and one in the living room ( 3 up 2 down house)

My car has a 2 kg power with hose in the boot and 1 kg in passenger footwell

Mrs Andy's super mini had a 1kg powder

Good choice on my part then? It was rather messy tbh.

Not as messy as it could have been from the sounds of it.

When I was on the buses all the extinguishers were powder, it will work on pretty much anything, it’ll be no good for a chip pan or a large amount of burning liquid but it would be my choice for a vehicle fire.

I have extinguishers everywhere, two in the truck, one in my bedroom, one and a fire blanket in the kitchen and a powder and a foam one in my shed.

Never had to use them thankfully but I’m glad I have them if I do.

I have extinquishers and a blanket in the kitchen, one in the front room and one on the bedroom. I keep a torch and a fire mask by the bed in case I need to get out quick! I also have one in the car.
