very cheap wicks

Post by cornerstone »

I saw this on you tube, it was cotton mop heads you just cut each strand and it can be used as a wick, so a very cheap alternative, it looks a little smokey though so i would think for outdoor use.

I'm a bit of a squirrel when it comes to wax , never like to see it thrown away and have buckets of the stuff and I've used the mop head for wicks. I've also used them for oil lamps too.

The best wicks I made was made from tight twists of A4 paper soaked in salt water, then dried. They lasted ages, didn't smoke, are silly cheap and you don't need to buy any materials specially for the job.

Salt seems to retard all sorts of processes, very interesting!
