Where to buy CAT (the tourniquet) and what price should I ex

Post by pupeno »

Hello,

I made a mistake in a previous post, where I meant to ask about CAT and I typed RAT: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14927 because that thread now evolved in a conversation about RATs, I decided to make another post.

I want to buy a few CATs but the best price I found on Amazon for a real one is 40GBP: http://amzn.to/2fTVm8X That seems expensive for what it is. It seems the main channels for selling CATs is not accessible to civilians/individuals. Any ideas if I could get it cheaper somewhere else?

Thank you.

Yeah, I know there are plenty fake ones. Some, you can easily tell them apart on Amazon. Hence I want to do some research to buy proper ones. :?

I have a CAT in my kit, a mate of mine got it from the states for me with a gear order so I can't help as to where to get one at a reasonable price, but have a look into the Tac-Med SOF tourniquet, I actually think it's better than the CAT and that's what I would buy now, they also make the Oleas bandages.

I haven't looked into whether you can get them in the UK but here's a link to their website with the info on it. http://www.tacmedsolutions.com/SOF-Tactical-Tourniquet

The way to stop the stick from turning on a Tac-Med SOF tourniquet seems harder than in a CAT, way more fidgety. Have you tried self application in different positions? Application to other people? How did you find it?

Nope, but these chaps have. https://www.blacksheepwarrior.com/how-d ... s-compare/

I just prefer the fact that there's only one method of attachment on the SOF.

CAT Tourniquet are now being made with a single buckle only.

Used to have a double buckle system, single for self application, double for use on others. The problem was you would apply one to yourself on the single buckle, then it would have to be loosened and reapplied on the double when help arrived. Now it's one buckle only for all no tourniquet should be very have to be loosened.

Also the time strap/windlass rod strap is now in olive green not white. Really usefull...

Didn't know they'd changed them, the change to the buckle seems sensible, the colour change less so...

Either way, something purpose made is going to be better than the tie and sharpening steel combination that I had to apply to someone in the rail crash, he made it though thankfully.
