Re: Axe recomendations
What made you choose that one?
What are you planning on using it for?
Its got a 2 1/2 lb head on a 2 foot handle, so this is looking like a pack axe rather then for homestead use. You going to be doing bushcrafty stuff or just reducing firewood?
Wetterlings is nice, for that sort of money you could also have a Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe #430 which is a little lighter.
I'm too cheap to drop nearly a ton on an axe, but YMMV

Re: Axe recomendations
I assume the head has a crack in it or has a metal welded or forged shaft which is broken and cant be fixed, else buy a new handle, or make one seems like buying a new one is alot of money to me
also what do you need your axe for
and did it die, cos the use you were putting it through was wrong or whatever
remember an axe is for life not just for Christmas lol

Re: Axe recomendations
its a replacement pack axe I'm after,
the current one could be re handled however the head has a narrow opening and is very antiquated,
It died due to age not through misuse, the shaft cracked right by the head and sheared off,
so I see this as an opportunity to up grade as well as replacing.....

I seem to think it was an Elwell....... Ive still got it as I can still use it as a wedge, Ive an old shaft so at some point I may have ago at putting this together, but the opening on the heads very narrow I suspect it will just shear off again.

Kent is a pattern of axe rather then a maker, they tend to have narrow eyes which is why I thought that might be what you've got. Pic of a Kent below
