Tesco Wind Up Radio

Has arrived and I'm really pleased with it. Sturdy little item, but small and light, so ideal for chucking in your BOB/car whatever should the need arise. I like the fact you can put batteries into it OR recharge it using the winding mechanism. It's also got quite a good LED torch built in. I'll get another at some point. Bargain at £5.50 and it was delivered free to my local Tesco.

Something else I can tick off me list now.

Just a question though - is a radio pretty much a radio - or are there some with bells, whistles and secret frequencies that I need to be knowing about? :?

Try winding it up and seeing how long it goes for - if you haven't already.

I got one as a present and it's crap. It only runs for as long as you wind it: I wind it for 10mins, then I get up to 10mins juice out of it, often less... NOT what it says in the instructions - it's supposed to be winded for 10mins and then go for about 45 or something.

Saying that - better than nothing I suppose in a SHTF situation - but then again I stockpile batteries...

I've had two. First one was great and lasted ages on a few minutes winding. But the handle was like yours and I snapped it by winding too vigorously, while on holiday in Kos to hear the end of a Greek pop song. It was a great song...

I now have a Hyundai radio/torch. Same handle. I'm more careful with it. Does need frequent winding.

I don't know the range on your radio but FM radio is broadcast on 87.5 to 108.0 MHz. If people transmit on CB (citizen's band) it's 3–30 MHz. I guess you might need a different set up if you want to contact other people.

Some reading material 8-)

I have one I picked up from Lidl a couple of years ago and it is great, a minute or so winding will last at least half an hour on the radio. Havent tested how long the torch will last but it is an excellent bit of kit for the money

Right, well I've wound the radio (fairly vigourously) for about a minute, and it's still going after 20 minutes! I'm pretty happy with that and will definitely be buying another. I would definitely recommend this product, plus it was only around a fiver.
