I'd gone in with the idea that it might be the last I do for a while, only to have that feeling confirmed by the family behind me who had no concept of social distancing. I had to tell the kids that I needed much more space than they were giving me with the belt divider - I hadn't got halfway through emptying my trolley!
I know the feeling. I've started weaponising my trolley. If I have someone behind me who wont keep back I stand in front of the trolley so they have to keep back.

I've got mini me who has his daddy's reflux someone gets too close between us we can both cough for England

Was eying up tinned stuff today think a £20/ £30 bulk buy in farm foods is coming tinned mince / chicken in white sauce / bully beef had to laugh on Friday Mrs a returned with 10kg of rice "just in case" she will use every last grain before buying more. She hasn't found the 20kg + 10 pasta in the back of the cupboard under the stairs .. had walked up so wasn't prepared to cart it home in carrier bags

Hope the daughter is ok jansman and can get herself back on her feet

jansman wrote: Mon Aug 31, 2020 2:43 pm I don’t know if it’s classed as a prep, but we have been ferrying new flat pack furniture in to rearrange living space now that daughter has moved back. When she left nearly 2 years ago, we redecorated etc the large bedroom that the girls shared, and the back bedroom we used as a walk in wardrobe basically. It’s cost a fortune this last few days! Anyhow, I told Mrs J that the ‘spare room’ will now be kept as an emergency bedroom after this.
Hope your daughter is OK jansman!

An emergency bedroom is a good idea - even if it means that you and Mrs J have somewhere to sleep if the other was ill or something.
That is a very good point. This weekend has also shown that you never know when family or friends may need help.
Having a spare bed is definitely a prep. I have one, sort of ... but I find it *impossible*, these days, to keep it clear of extra stuff. I'm kind of pampered in being able to acquire that much (food storage) though if anybody really needed that bed, I'd just clear the stuff off to the desk, which I keep clear so I can, y'know, use it.

Ditto on hoping your daughter is okay, jansman, things are hard.

Love the weaponising of the trolley :) I was having a delivery tomorrow, but I've delayed it a week - I really do have plenty of stocks, and I need the chance of a walk out in the local forest, the chance of which clashes with the delivery. Choices.

I've been working hard on the wall of laurel at the back of my garden - thinning it and then lowering it. Really, really hard work - the trunks where its all growing from are a great security measure, I'm keeping a layer thats about 8 feet high, but the shrubbery growing out of it needs to be only about 12 feet high, and its getting upwards of 20 now - thats not manageable, and creates a set of shadows not helpful to my crops, while doing nothing for security or privacy.

I've shattered

Don't kill yourself arzosah!!! We went OUT lol Hallelujah! Just a few miles up the back road but it was great. All this year I've been stuck in and I was cracking up. Was lovely, the heather is starting to bloom.

Lovely view absolutely, Lil. I'm glad you managed to get out while it's still the right season.

Still alive here! Recovered a bit, managed some sleep. Loving the broad, open aspect of your pix.

Just replaced one of our old log burners which cost us £50 (secondhand) 17 years ago. Had our money's worth from it, but it didnt have an ash pan and so cleaning the thing out was very messy. The new one is a bit of a beast, better heat output, ash pan and a bigger top so more room for the kettle and a cast iron dutch oven if I want to cook on it. Waiting for the chimney sweep to sweep both chimneys now so that we can install it properly. Carbon monoxide detector is due to be replaced in the New Year so added that to the list. Log burners are our secondary heat source as we have oil heating, but we get (mostly) free wood so limit the use of the oil heating.

This week I have refilled one of our 13KG patio gas bottles (used for our gas barbecue) I like to keep them both filled up through the winter as a backup for emergency cooking if required, the barbecue has a hinged lid with a temperature gauge and can be used as a makeshift oven if required.
I have bought 2 new battery powered lanterns (herobeam LED ones) one for night fishing and the other to be kept indoors as emergency lighting.
We have a small (98 litre) chest freezer being delivered later this week, it’s job will be to mainly hold frozen veg and meat through the winter.
Outdoors we have been tidying up the garden and putting away summer equipment ready for winter, I noticed the shed roof is leaking, the shed really needs to be replaced but with a house move on the cards in the next 12 months it’s being left to face the winter in its current state (hopefully it will still be standing come the spring)

I bought in addition to my EDC bag 2 Condor bags (in black) - I just have to repack everything and that is what I'm procrastinating ^^
