Honestly mate, especially at the start fitness is key, especially the running, as a young guy the rest should still be relatively easy. Fitness is one thing that you can square away BEFORE you join, its one less thing to worry about when you do. If you're looking to join the same bunch as your mates then listen to all their 'tales', in amongst them all there will be some useful stuff.

Great post and I am going to use it as a check list for myself and see how I compare.

Ref the fitness - going walking even if it is a nightly one mile circle. You get to see the lay of the land and any changes all through the year.

It is what I have been doing and I am better for it.

Bit of an update on some boring stuff

Got physical and digital copies made of all important documents.
Most importantly, got a job so can start building up an emergency fund.
