Like a lot of folk I got trapped out in my car by “the beast from the east” last week.
Was driving home, slowly, and ended up getting stuck for several hours on the motorway.
Things I had in my emergency pack which I used:
Water
Chocolate
Warm clothes
Battry pack for charging phones etc (used by a few people in other cars too)
If I was there any longer I’d have gotten use of my torches no doubt too.
However in that situation I realised I was missing some things that thankfully I didn’t need but might have, and have since ordered:
Shovel
Emergency blankets
Gas / fuel stove
Cookable food
It was an interesting experience and one that has helped me flesh out my car emergency pack.

a small stove is always a great addition to a car pack, I keep one of these in the car all the time

Great shout. I’m going to look at these now.

I always carry 2x 1L water bottles in the car. Not a lot but enough for an overnighter.
As for shovel, I use my old folding entrenching tool I got when in the forces. Good bit of kit and nice and small to carry.
I also have 2 American self heating MRE's in the car so I've always hot food available.
I've a jetboil too, xplosiv1. Good bit of kit and nice and compact to carry.

if your going to have a stove also throw in a thermos flask, saves you having to reboil water for a brew.BugOut66 wrote:Great shout. I’m going to look at these now.

Anyone else keep a pee bottle in the car? After all those hot drinks on the jetboil, while you're heading into your 15th hour stuck in the snowdrift....

I used to have a van that had previously been owned by a band that had used it for touring, there was a length of hose with a funnel siliconed into the end of it that led though a small hole in the floor.featherstick wrote:Anyone else keep a pee bottle in the car? Good idea, but I still put some rubber gloves on and ripped it out....
