Bought about 8kg of pasta (I'd already bought 4 bags but saw some cheap 3kg bags too and couldn't resist) and replaced some of the other stuff like tinned sweetcorn and tuna.We don't have a local Lidl so made the most of a visit to one. Got some other stuff we like too, braw tattie salad and chewing gum and also got 5kg of charcoal briquettes for 3 quid. We're getting one soon to give the other relatively close supermarkets competition.

Snap! :P Mine is the same. I've got a box full of assorted feet for it, but am having trouble locating an instruction manual for them.
Any idea which one it is?

I'll have to upend it again and find the model number. Thanks for that I'll have a look. At the moment I have no idea what all those feet are for.

Seems every time I'm in Aldi I get the same couple of things more pasta, rice, jars of sauce, corn beef, tuna. Ok we use these most weeks so buying an extra one or two isn't a problem just have to keep an eye on how many we end up with. Also started getting tinned veg and spuds normally have frozen or fresh but the handyness of tinned if things go off track, just need to start swapping them in to the weekly menu now.

I have even managed to convince the wife I'm not mad but planning ahead for the future. I suspect she still thinks I've read too many zombie books lol. Then again I did have 5 axes delivered yesterday so I don't know - they are for the scouts wink wink

Years ago I got a device from a non mainstream supplier ( NOT 'Not On The High Street' but someone similar whose name eludes my memory just now). Anyway, it is a device for compressing papier mâché into bricks which can then be used in an open fire or woodburner. I have this week been making some of these bricks - and mixing in green waste with the paper for good measure. Here in central France it gets very cold indeed from Nov - March so hopefully I can make enough of these to last the winter. In addition i carry a bow saw in the back of the car and have got a substantial amount of free fuel from blown down branches following the currently appalling weather here.

I've been on holiday in Sweden for a couple of weeks (right now I'm at the Oslo airport hotel, Wi-Fi for the first time since I left the UK) . We've stayed really remote with no internet or possibility to walk to shops (car needed) and as much as i loved it to be remote in the woods and fleeing from the typical city/countryside stress in the UK, I just was getting wary how much more prepping I need to do when back home tomorrow. As it was a holiday log cabin on self catering I really noticed one night that we need to shop next day but what would/could happend if SHTF that night? No food or drinks (especially no beer  ) and having no such stuff for the wee lad. Ok i had my fishing gear with me and the lake water is clean enough to boil up and drink it but back home I don't have these facilities.

This holiday just opened my eyes even further what I need to do to be prepared

Have you actually tried burning the bricks, and were they any good?

Reason I ask is my mum got one as well some years back and the verdict was the results were pretty much useless & it never got used again. I can't imagine the method could vary much for such a simple kind of device.

I asked the forum 'brain trust' about these a few years back, the collective wisdom was that they were crap so I didn't take it any further. Sounds like your mum had the same results, pity, in theory it sounds like a great idea.
