Ball canning jars

Post by Noddy65 »

I have just discovered Target in the US are now shipping to the UK and it’s cheaper to buy a 12 jar case of jars from them at roughly £8 plus shipping & tax to uk = £15/16 I just bought a lot of jars (130) in numerous sizes & lids with rings 12 piece 4sets of wide & 4 regular and a 23Qt presto canner shipped to uk for £350 a saving of a cpl £100 if I purchased from eBay amazon or the 6 jar cases some of uk stores do thought some of you might be interested in having a look.

Let us know how the jars fare in transit. That's been the only thing stopping me buying from USA are the possible breakages. Good luck with the Presto, I have the 16qt and am VERY happy with it. It's a good water bath canner and mass pressure cooker too. Dried beans in particular...... 5 minutes! :D

Interesting... I've just been pricing them up & for some reason they pile on higher shipping for the 1pt jars but the 23qt Presto canner has a decent saving (£108 shipped compared to £145 on eBay).

Below is some of the items priced up, thought I'd share here to save others time:

Target Pricing
Presto 23qt Pressure canner £108.67 shipped
Items: GBP 68.84
Shipping: GBP 22.19
Duties: GBP 0.00
Taxes: GBP 17.64
Order Total: GBP 108.67

96 1pt Wide Mouth Jars shipped inc. taxes £177.86 = £1.85 ea
Items: GBP 64.08
Shipping: GBP 84.90
Duties: GBP 0.00
Taxes: GBP 28.88
Order Total: GBP 177.86

96 1qt Wide Mouth Jars shipped inc. taxes £116.08 = £1.21 ea
Items: GBP 59.44
Shipping: GBP 37.76
Duties: GBP 0.00
Taxes: GBP 18.88
Order Total: GBP 116.08

96 wide mouth lids & rings £58.11 shipped inc. taxes (note: both lids AND rings) = 60p ea
Items: GBP 30.88
Shipping: GBP 18.03
Duties: GBP 0.00
Taxes: GBP 9.20
Order Total: GBP 58.11

Below are the jar prices from Hobbycraft for comparison:

Hobbycraft 1pt - £2.33 ea (6-pack)
Hobbycraft 1qt - £3.00 ea (4-pack)

Cripes! Just looked myself. So 5 lots of 12 x 1pt regular mouth jars, even including including shipping and tax, which more than doubles the price, works out at £8.60 per pack of 6 jars. The Kilner 0.5l jars I've bought before are £11.40 per pack of 6. Seems the lids are only available in store though. No wonder canning is more popular in the US than here, the frickin' jars are pennies compared to how much we pay!! :o It's crazy. :x

Noddy, oh brave one, do let us know how the jars survive transit! Will definitely be ordering if I could end up with jars rather than shards of glass!

Looks like you get 10% off first order, and free shipping for orders over £55.00.

This was just a quick once-over of the website. As usual, DYOR.
