Alert system

Post by Stonecarver »

I was just thinking that we could have some sort system people who use the forum can look to in case we have some sort of emergency. The CME that just hit while back could have been a kill shot aimed at Earth. How many would have known it was coming? Forum has my email and everyone else on here. I would not trust media to tell me if something was going to happen
Just saying.
Not worried about powering the whole house, just eating hot food, getting a brew, seeing through the dark, and staying warm.

I think you can subscribe to the news forums then you should get an email alert whenever someone starts a new thread.

The met office have an alert system for Space Weather but you have to be from certain organisations to get it. Not sure why except possibly they have very limited resources so can't support it very well so have decided to keep it small.

I qualify from some work I do, but the site is problematic as it requires Adobe Flash which has big security issues these days.

I can get an email for different types and levels of space weather alert. Interestingly even Carrington CME type events are thought unlikely to hit the UK power grid that much as the grid like design ( rather than the US and Canada where very long electricity transmission lines make them much more vulnerable). The major concerns appear to be about the loss of a percentage of satellites which could have an impact.
