how to improve tinned foods
I...like a lot of people..have a lot of tinned food in my stores. A lot of tinned stuff is alright but some (such as potatoes) are far inferior to fresh. Anyone know how you can improve the taste texture etc
Not worried about powering the whole house, just eating hot food, getting a brew, seeing through the dark, and staying warm.

I like to fry tinned spuds. Nice taste (I cook in olive oil), and a good crispy texture.
If I'm feeling a little lazy and make a tinned veg medley for dinner, I often cook it all in gravy. Tip in the tins, and then tip in value gravy granules.

You wouldn't want it every night but aye, sometimes that kind of stuff just hits the spot. Gravy granules are a great source of flavour/calories (if not nutrition) when you're away anyway.

Tinned potatoes are terrific in Bombay potatoes (recipe here) http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/bombaypotatoes_1406
Slice and use as a topping for hotpot
Make potato salad
Use for Dauphinoise or Boulangere potatoes.
You just need to think outside the box.

Franks Hot Sauce makes everything taste better.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Whoa there boy! Tinned food is brilliant stuff. The other night me and the gaffer couldn't decide what to eat,to be honest we couldn't be arsed! So a tinned stew it was.Big pan,and into it went ,1 of each, peas, carrots, stewing steak, mince and onions, spuds,Irish stew, oxtail soup.Heated through with a liberal amount of curry powder and a loaf of French bread...banging!

Don't upset Jansman when it comes to tinned food. I swear he could live off of it and be perfectly happy for ever!

Tinned meat from M&S is pretty good. Minced beef, chicken in a white sauce, curries, steak - all very good quality.
