I've configured my Baofeng radios with the PMR channels, some maritime, RAF mountain rescue, the UK prepper proposed frequency (172), Ham calling, business radio frequencies and local repeaters. Now they are going in the EDC's.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Bought two pairs of walking boots. Leather pair purely for traipsing about in the mountain ranges of Snowdonia and a lightweight pair as an upgrade to my normal general use pair. If I can avoid it I try to avoid wearing heavy footwear - makes me walk like Frankenstein !
My old pair will probably now stay in the car incase I ever need to walk home (or become a dog walking pair)
So the weekend will probably be spent wearing at least one pair in.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Bought a few large cans of fruit (all the use-bys are 2016 at the latest - will they last longer?), more matches, a gas/fire lighter, two Mylar bags (the kind two people can sleep in) and I've ordered a fire striker. I can see a pattern forming here. I think the cold worries me more than going hungry ! I'm looking into a local archery club and I've been researching stuff like guns, solar panels (are they really free? or are they means tested?) and fishing. Planning hikes in the summer with the family (or at least the kids ), with survival techniques thrown in for fun. Still looking into buying some books (the Kindle won't work when SHTF) and that really annoys me because I've been trying to offload books for a while to streamline our home , however, interested to see you can download military manuals free of charge (except for the cost of the reams of paper and ink, of course). Unfortunately, my steam generator iron is playing up, so I've ordered one of them too, but I don't think I'll be spending so much time ironing when SHTF . Managed to clear weeds from asparagus raised bed (which I'm proud to say my husband made - very sturdy, in fact), which is on its last warning as I've had very little asparagus for it in the few years it's been planted. Researching blueberries and planning to take a trip along to one of the nearby stables for some, hopefully free, well-rotted (?) horse manure. The only time I had some (not very well rotted, as it stank to high heavens - I can only wonder what my neighbours thought ), the plants grew like triffids. They also had a constant dripping overflow to keep them watered and direct sun so the manure was only one factor! Hope you've all had a great weekend! PS Anyone know where I can buy a shipping container (in perfect/very good condition) for next to nothing and do you need planning permission to stick one of those in your garden in Scotland - I'm prepared to disguise it . Will be taking down two large huts and have already taken down one small one. Think the shipping containers would a) last longer than softwood huts, b) allow me to store my supplies in them, as they're bound to be clean and dry and c) be able to be well-secured. Glad to see shelves stacked with a bit of this and a bit of that. The American preppers seem to buy things by the case-load , but I'm thinking about getting a Cash 'n Carry card (how easy is this?). Hope you've all had a great weekend .

Hi feisty , goodness what a load of questions
Solar panels , depends who you go to but you get "free" electricity they get the feed in tarrif and you get a smug satisfaction if being "green"
Horse manure , if your in fife ,ping me we've got about 10 tons
Shipping container we got ours ( but there insulated office ones for 1400 each plus 100 quid delivery from Morris Leslie in Errol , but be warned check the roof for rot once they are rusted there useless
Put a type 1 pad down and lift the container off the ground with a few 4" dense concrete blocks
Planning good luck , best to ask them but remember to tell them they are "temporary"
They are only as secure as anything else , the roofs and walls are only 1.6mm steel thick
Shelving www.bigdug.co.uk
Cash and carrys , watch them they can be more expensive than supermarkets, makro and Booker's especially, Costco
is good but only 3 in Scotland , Glasgow , Edinburgh and Aberdeen ,
As for a card Costco easy , the rest need a business ,
Have a good weekend too

Great info here. Working backwards - think I can probably get the Costco card all right, but wonder if they cancel it if you're "usage" is too low (rhetorical question ). I seen that shelving and it looks rugged. If I had a dedicated pantry or insulated room I would definitely buy it - have some other shelving I can use for now. Garden container definitely "temporary" LOL. We have a reasonable bit of garden, but sounds like you have acres . The shipping container site doesn't give prices and I think I'd feel a fraud if I contacted them and didn't have a clue - something to look into a bit more. There may actually be a place near us, but will refer back to the Morris Leslie site. 1.6mm isn't much and I'm sure it needs to be painted constantly, especially with West Coast weather. Assuming the pad is insulation. Biggest difficulty is trying to sell the idea to OH. Hah! I could cope with a couple of tonnes of manure (not sure the neighbours would agree, but no way to transport - gutted. I was thinking along the lines of popping along in the car now and again once I've established contact and filling a sturdy, lidded container. Wish you were nearer ! Keep getting calls re the Green Deal. Usually ignore all insulation/solar panel calls - we never get anything for nothing . But, having seen it on TV, it seems bonafide and might be worth looking into. Currently paying in excess of £3K pa for gas/electricity for bungalow. Would really miss my hairdryer if SHTF !
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
This week I am standing down my acre of ground at the end of the village. I do have 'til Autumn, but I have a buyer for the polytunnels, goats and 2/3 of the rabbits. I was going to knock out a crop, but I can use the time better.
Leading me nicely into this week's project(s). Today I have sorted my main food/emergency gear storage. This freed up some shelving in the workshop. Which, in turn, meant space to sort and stack my fishing gear. Fishing has always been my passion, and I want to fish more this year. Some of the surplus kit I have, I shall donate to a local Angling Charity.
Did a tip-run and shifted a load of rammel, which frees up space for my container garden.
A satisfying day.
