Re: CRISIS!
He's well sorted now. My point here is that this is prepping at it's best,it's why we do it! I told the boyfriend he's one of our Tribe now,and we look after our own. Great story. It strikes me that it is easier to prepare for something that we know is going to happen (EG., camping holiday), but wh...

Re: A way round rising fuel costs or a dead duck?
How about a system where the pedalling bit recharges the battery? Just a thought. :) How about getting organized with your home constructed photovoltaic system and using that (with diode protection) to charge up the battery of your electric bike and thus to give yourself the closest thing to free p...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Just bought some lamp wick and some galvanized wire to make olive oil lamps with. Made my first one and it worked nicely. Dashit these things are quick and easy to make. Just a pair of pliers and a pen knife, five minutes and you are done! There was a bit of an oily smell in the air though and extin...

Re: Make An Olive Oil Lamp
Has anyone considered an olive oil stove before ? Any thoughts? I used the method for a wood gas stove before and soaked cotton wool balls with corn oil and threw that into the wood gas stove. The result was that the oil vaporized and then at the secondary air intake holes, the vapor ignited into ho...

Re: Water Purification
It isn't really something that I would recommend. The "small beer" they they had in those days was the same strength as the real ales of today. Can you really keep your wits about you when drunk as a skunk? Trust be, I have been an undergraduate before and I used to drink beer the way that...

Re: What do you mean by SHTF?
SHTF is anything. i cant prep for everything. The Universe is not asking me to. In some ways I am already in SHTF as I am low income and life is getting harder. Who was expecting the England riots? That was SHTF. Who can expect a bad cold? Spraining an ankle? Most of my SHTF scenarios are about wate...
