Re: In the event of nuclear war...

Thanks. I'll read up on Irpin and Bucha. I take it you mean military suppression and intimidation by an overpowering invader, rather than societal breakdown. You are right of course. The unarmed are helpless when the armed take control, whether that's invading army, or local warlords. Bad men do ba...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

Society would in fact, break down. You see it in the Ukraine and what happened in Israel. Wipe away the very thin veneer of civilisation and we are no better than the Crusaders, sacking the city of Antioch. I'm not saying it won't or doesn't happen, but I haven't seen reports of food riots or socie...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

One that's repeatable in polite company was a group of blokes down my sisters street surrounded a group of teenagers who thought it'd be fun to go down her road tipping the wheelie bins over and convinced them that it'd be a mighty good idea to go put the bins back upright my sister looked out seei...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

Apparently we are providing a laser system to the Ukraine to shoot down missiles. It’s meant to be 80% ready in terms of testing and it needs a steady source of electricity for it to work but if you want to test it against Russian ballistic missiles, where better than there just now! If successful, ...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

It’s something I can’t really do much about therefore my prepping tends to be more sedate if that makes sense. Do I have a 72h bug out bag? Yes. Do I have a GOOD plan? Again yes. But that’s more to just get out of Edinburgh for a few days rather than an ITEOTWAWKI situation. It’s probably going to b...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

That’s a very good point about relations. Now all of my family live down under in Oz and NZ. I’ve lived there myself and have good friends in the South Island, it would be the natural place for ‘me’ to head to. But all of my wife’s family live in and around Edinburgh. She wouldn’t want to leave her ...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

Not just me thinking that way then? Nope. I was thinking of how and where I could go to. Along the coast to East Lothian? I wouldn’t fancy being close to Torness nuclear power station in the long term. Fife? Rosyth dockyard is where they build aircraft carriers and easily converted back to ho...

Re: In the event of nuclear war...

There’s nowhere to run to. There’s nowhere to hide. The government would in all likelihood impose a travel ban so unless you have a yacht, you couldn’t get out of the country. I can see Edinburgh Castle from my window, it’s the natural aiming point for any missile coming in and Edinburgh is one of t...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Don’t know where else to put this, but this is one of the daily questions from YouGov this morning.

Just a laugh, I pressed ‘fairly well’ as I like to think I’m better prepared than most but you never can tell what would happen.

Re: National grid (electric) look to suspend night time call outs to domestic power cuts

I’m currently sunning myself on the Gold Coast of Australia and I was speaking to a sparky the other day. Last year they had a cyclone/tornado hit the coast and then massive flooding inland which cut people off for ages. As parts are on hills with houses on basically stilts, some water tanks further...
