Re: Another little step towards a cashless society.
I seem to recall a sc-fy film with targeted ads that spoke to each person as you passed them , sort of like "hello John you need to buy bloggs shirts as their cotton blend won't irritate your sciatica " . That wasn't the actual line , I just made that up but you get the idea. Probably a b...

Re: Another little step towards a cashless society.
Loving the whole discussion, very informative, thanks all! [ a goldmine of information ...advertisers ...with targeted ads ... 50% of that already happens online - search for hiking boots on Amazon, and even when you've shut down that tab, the next website you load that has google analytics/cookies...

Re: Another little step towards a cashless society.
Obviously all the drug dealers across Sweden and every other country won't be going to the government and telling them what their turnover is, what percentage is cash and how they're doing their transactions! . Maybe an unforeseen side effect will be a reduction in drug dealers if they can't use or...

Re: Another little step towards a cashless society.
Interesting! As far as the Swedes stopping using cash - I'd be interested to know how many cyber attacks they suffer, or how many power cuts they have (ie is it less than us per head or something?), because surely those can interfere with a cashless situation? Oops  that was mentioned and I f...

Re: Another little step towards a cashless society.
Sorry to bring up an old thread . Did anyone else catch the radio 4 programme you and yours a couple of days ago? It had a piece about Sweden . Evidentially it was the first country in the world to introduce banknotes and is set to become the first to completely do away with them and coins as well. ...

Re: Refrigeration.
I do medieval , 15th century. The chest is based on a flour chest , simple plank construction using 12" wide boards and simple wire hinges. The ends are "extended" so the chest as a whole is raised above the floor and can be used as a makeshift bench if necessary . It's not huge partl...

Re: Refrigeration.
I've made a cool box from timber and kingspan insulation. I am involved in re-enactment and still have the need to keep some things cool so made a chest and have lined it with the insulation. I normally cool everything down in the fridge or freezer before placing it in the cool box and it serves to ...

Re: Tarpaulins,timber and tape
Yes I've got tarps and the like. Keeping a few tiling laths or battens at hand can also be a good idea to firmly fix down a tarp. Ok so it will damage the tarp to nail them down but treat them as consumables . I also keep a stock of tiles and felt for a proper repair and have a couple of tins of stu...

Re: Compact veg garden
Not actually prepping but I've used drainage pipes too as an attempt to grow really large carrots. Pipe is filled with fine sieved soil with watering holes cut all the way down and the theory is to progressively water at a lower point to encourage the carrot downward to grow into a monster length . ...
