Re: a load of guff about coping mentally post SHTF

Wow ! what a post, you've put a lot of thought into it, that's for sure and you probably won't get much dispute on here. My small input into it is that we don't know how we'll react to the life and death stuff until you're in that kind of situation, training (or practice) can overcome it to an exten...

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

On the dehydrating thing, I'm still finding my feet but its not just garlic that reeks the place out, both me and the missus have noticed that we're a bit whiffy with the onions I've been doing. I'm jealous of all the stuff folk have been doing with theirs, I've not had much success with carrots bu...

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

The 14500 batteries are pretty impressive, I trialled a couple of Cree torches with a brand new AA battery against a fully charged one and the 14500 was a good bit brighter, they ain't cheap as rechargeable batteries but they are quality. On the dehydrating thing, I'm still finding my feet but its n...

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

Managed to pick up one of the folding saws from lidl, and took delivery of a small butane stove and 8 gas cans. We did the usual with the shopping and picked up a few bits and pieces extra, if the wife sees how much sugar is in the cupboard she'll take my bank card off me, I'll wake up one morning ...

Re: Solar panels on East-West roof.

The easy way would be to charge a power bank during the day when the panels are generating. found this item on BIMBLESOLAR I have no connection or commercial interest but it does seem to be one of the better websites in the UK for Alternative Power. The feed-in tariff for solar energy reduces and t...

Re: Solar panels on East-West roof.

From what I understand it should be possible , at least in theory , to divert power directly into something like a non voltage dependant water heater doing away with battery banks and the like. So in a blackout situation you would be able to generate and store heat rather than electricity but as so...

Re: Solar panels on East-West roof.

I've gone for it, I spoke to my more knowledgeable mate for a second opinion and even missus Deeps was up for it and she's usually the more tight fisted one. Once the dust has settled I'll be looking to 'tweak' it as per Poppypiesdad's advice. It seems daft to be generating your own lecky and not be...

Re: Solar panels on East-West roof.

My brother is an electrical professor or something... Well, so he says. Nobody believes him. Anyway, he reckons that the technology in solar took a leap in recent years and the market is going to change a lot in the foreseeable future. He said something about 47% efficient panels, all the current t...
