Re: New prepper like brand new

Problem with bugging out in the UK is there's so little space , imagine the peak District on a scorching bank holiday weekend then multiply the Chaos by 10 when people are in full blown panic and the ice-cream shop has sold out and the queue for the public toilets reaches back to the visitors centr...

Re: Switch&Skim

Why does it affect your credit rating ? (Not that I'm overly bothered, except that I might want to switch credit card if a better cashback comes along).

Re: Potential drought coming to UK

I got about 2500 litres in water butts; more than half of it comes off the house and garage roof, the other half I pump from these. If there's a sniff of f hosepipe ban I'll fill them from the hose. As for who owns rivers/streams, various people do but to extract water (more than 20000l/day) from th...

Re: Being hounded to get a smart meter

We got another phone call yesterday from Eon. “It’s a legal requirement “ my wife was told.  She asked what would happen if the matter was refused ( on loud speaker) I burst out laughing! The caller asked if I was making fun? She said , “ be glad you haven’t called my husband “. :D The c...

Re: Being hounded to get a smart meter

I do have smart meters. There was one here when we moved in; has to be fitted for the solar panels I beleive. I recently had the meters upgraded to smets2 and I now have a little display that tells me the usage. For me this is good because my solar panels, being 2011 vintage, only generate a maximum...

Re: Bugging out in the UK

Forgive me if this is somthing that's been coverd before. I know that it's been stated in various threads that bugging out in the UK, given the population density, urban nature of most of the country isn't an option. However is the idea of having a retreat or some location you can move to, so far f...

Re: fruit trees in home bargins

Oooo, thanks for the heads-up.
I had to remove two of our trees (an apple and a pear) this year as they were nearly dead.
I shall send Mrs K down there to have a look while I sit on my backside watching football this afternoon.

Re: Heat Pumps are Pants!

We had a lot of work done to our house last year. Part of it was a revamp of the (wet) central heating. We looked into a heat pump but decided against it for the following reasons: 1. Cost. It was going to cost at least £10k more than a new gas boiler. Given the longevity and reliability it might ne...
