Re: Self defence ideas
If anything happened and you had to twat an attacker, they are almost certain to say "she hit me for no reason". If you have hit them with anything that could be primarily conceived of as a weapon, such as a padlock on a chain, tactical pen or a walking stick (assuming you've no mobility i...

Re: Internet Coverage Extenders - ??
Cheap/Easy/Reliable. Pick any two. I would always go for a wired connection to another router used as an Access Point (as a wise old colleague once said "radio has no place in a fixed network"). Simply turn off DHCP on the AP router. Make sure you use external cat 5/6 as internal isn't UV ...

Re: Is ,or has, anyone used their preps in a full- on way?
Without going in to the gory details, last week I was away visiting relatives and I caught something like norovirus off one of the kids (found out they'd had a it the day before we arrived  ). I always pack an extra couple of days clothing (pants/socks/t-shirts) and I was very glad I did as th...

Like others, at the start of the pandemic I was dipping in to the food, toiletries and cleaning stocks to avoid supermarkets as much as possible. More than physical stuff though, is the mindset of going into "prepper mode". From day one I was scouring the web for alternative sources of foo...

Re: Sort of off Grid Living in Russia,
In the late 1960s my cousin moved to the US. For his job he needed to be a US citizen so he became one, and thus became eligible for "the draft", which would have meant a trip to Vietnam (several of his friends/colleagues got drafted and sent there). Well, he didn't fancy it so he had a co...

Re: What temperature do you have your house.
it's set to 18.5 in the day, drops to 15 at 2200 and 10 from 2200-0800 (we're not early risers, to say the least). Had a load of work done to the house with a big set of french doors in the kitchen/diner and it feels a bit taters in there. In the past we've had it set to 20/21 because we were too la...

Re: Has everyone coped with the extreme cold?>
We've just moved back in properly after having a loft conversion, downstairs remodelling, rewire, replumb, the works. New boiler is working well but I've kept the thermostat at 18 and we wear jumpers. Given the amount of money we;ve spent on the works and the discomfort we've endured living in our g...

Re: Camera doorbells
I have a Ring doorbell.
Don't like it because :
1. £5 a month to be able to view stored recordings (no on-site storage).
2. Internet is a bit "flaky", it sometimes loses it's connection for no reason (doorbell is pretty close to router so it's not a signal strength problem).
