Re: Now rice and long-life milk is disappearing from shelves

Local Asian shops seem to have plenty of some of the things that are disappearing from supermarkets... bog roll, rice etc.

Re: Will there be food shortages in the UK?

Latest supermarket update (based on visit to big Tesco): Toilet roll aisle completely empty, not even the pricier stuff left. Local Asian shops have tonnes of the stuff left though. All packets of pasta and rice gone. Smaller microwave types of rice and dry pasta in sauce still available. Long life ...

Re: Will there be food shortages in the UK?

I always think when I see things like this that, although well-intentioned, it's going to have the opposite effect to what the shops' hoped.

Re: Self Build to include a bunker

I was wondering the other day about bunkers and planning permission. If you have to apply for that before building then doesn't that advertise to joe public something that you'd rather most people weren't aware of? I'm not saying everyone is gong to make a mental 'head there in a SHTF scenario' note...

Re: Will there be food shortages in the UK?

I've got a couple of jars of powered milk and coffee whitener but can't remember the brands. I noticed the use by date on the long life milk cartons at Tesco was August when I visited earlier this week.

Re: Will there be food shortages in the UK?

It's strange. Even though I've topped up the usual supplies, I still look at them and ponder in a situation like this where you don't really know how it'll develop and how long it'll last for. No matter how much you've got, you're never sure whether it's enough. You have more than you think. If any...

Gloves and coronavirus

I've seen mixed messages about using sterile, medical-style gloves for going to the shops etc but have started to see a few people wearing them. Some organisations have pointed out, obviously, that they're no substitute for good hygiene and can lead people into a sense of false security. However, I'...

Now rice and long-life milk is disappearing from shelves

Last week when I did the family shop it was just bog roll and pasta that had been cleared out. This morning I noticed that the shelves of long-life milk and rice were also now empty. The little Uncle Ben's style lob-them-in-the-microwave packets were still in plentiful supply though.
