Re: Mini ice age coming?
It's all fine and good to think that you can maintain an industrial first world society by reduce reuse recycle. It's a pretty 60's hippy mentality when you get right down to it, and not very realistic Every society economically has to have economic growth of some sort or its a stagnant society . N...

Re: Mushroom growing - free ebook
I remember when I was a teenager my father was given a mushroom growing kit. He always grew veggies but not mushrooms presumably because they were one of the few things he didn't eat but he started the kit off. It was in a big plastic tub if I recall correctly and it was in what we called the outhou...

Re: Mini ice age coming?
And therein lies the problem. It's a vicious circle fuelled as much by the idea of continuous growth than anything else , every increasing industrial production to produce more wealth to finance the ever increasing debt based economies and oil with its high EROEI has provided the ideal energy resour...

Re: Fruit and nuts
Yes we can grow almonds. Mine isn't a particularly big tree and it's normally a good cropper but this year there's not many on it . Plenty of blossom earlier but not translated to the nuts. I don't have hazels although there are quite a few nearby but it's always a battle to get the nuts before the ...

Re: Fire Escape Ladder
This is something I need too, but the ones on Amazon would not fit on my wide window sills. Anyone have any ideas? Lash an iron bar across the top to make it wider maybe. How about fixing it to the floor joists with coach screws , if you're heavy enough to rip those out there's probably a good chan...

Re: Mini ice age coming?
I have a healthy dollop of cynicism too so can't fault you there. To be honest what was or wasn't in the media four decades ago is pretty irrelevant really. The evidence is overwhelming that the earth has been warming and stories of impending ice ages don't do any good , quite the opposite in fact ....

Re: Mini ice age coming?
They were trying to scare us with stories about a new ice when I was a kid in the 70s. Which made the whole "global warming" hype a few short decades later sound so much more unbelievable. While I too can remember some reports saying that in the '70's it seems the truth is a little differ...

Re: Fruit and nuts
Almost forgot about my gooseberries and wild strawberries. Both have done well , the former probably better than last year. I don't have any mountain ash or rowan as they are also known but there are lots nearby all of which are covered in berries. MissAnpassad do you use yours? I never seem to get ...
