Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

In Liverpool, a job for the guys with the tools used to be known as a foreigner :) Proper loft ladder ... blissful, I had one in my previous house, loved it, very strong, very secure. I had to get bolts installed on the loft hatch, it was on top of a hill, and used to blow open - if it did as a pers...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Been out shopping to top up the preps ..just got the car back the suspension went with a almighty bang scared the absolute daylights out of me ! The torch I bought hubby for Xmas that he laughed at to go with the other 25 or so was brilliant as he was lying on the road under car trying to find out ...

Re: Cooking during power outage

... the woodburner, properly fitted of course (carbon monoxide detector, fire bucket and fire blanket and extinguisher close to hand plus a knife to cut the tent canvas as a last resort) and would have no hesitation in setting it all up during a power outage, although its a bit of a tight fit in th...

I wouldn't fancy using any of it if I didn't have to, but I *can* :) There's also boxes of candles, light enough of them at once and you can warm your hands, even if you don't go the flowerpot route  Sit in the car assuming you've a full tank ;) phone / tablet charging off the cigarette lighte...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Depends how bad it gets - my primary backup is a little gas fire that runs on the same cartridges as a solo camping stove. I have a couple of litres of veg oil that went off (to my shame!) but I kept them, and I could easily soak cardboard/ twigs/ even spare material if it got bad enough, and light ...

Re: Why am I here?

Welcome to the forum, Allex - you'll find that quite a few of us are on the other end of the age spectrum, so to speak :) you'll fit right in. Can I ask, do you have a garden? Perennial plants can be a real help - fruit bushes, herbs, a few vegetables, or maybe a few "set and forget" like ...

Re: new member!

Welcome! There's a few in south east England, but like Andy said, what kind of thing are you prepping for? We generally like to get to know people before next steps like where we are and whatnot. Whatever you're going for, hope you find lots of good stuff in the forum.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Well done GeeGee, that's great news :)

I'm not actively prepping right now - I have a couple of deliveries to sort, but my priority has to be upcoming tax return, I don't seem physically capable of starting it before the January that it's due :?

Re: Prepping when ill or infirm

However, when I removed the stoves ,and replaced them with electric versions ( they are brilliant by the way) I insisted we had a mobile gas heater ,and an adequate supply of gas. Also I sorted a pipe input into the living room with a removable weather cover for diesel heating if it really goes wron...

Re: Back again

Welcome, south coast! Foraging is a favourite of mine, though I don't do enough for it. I may have been given a foraging book for Christmas (The Forager's Calendar by John Wright) - I've obviously been warbling on about it even to my non-prepping family.

Go for it :)
