Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4
Feeling pretty good this week . In the thread deeps refers to I mentioned I had picked up four large water butts for nothing . I also picked up a couple of dustbins at the same time , again for nothing , which are always useful for storage of less important items. I've chopped and stacked more firew...

Re: Rain water butts
Now I don't know if this applies to all Tesco's but we were in the Tesco in Perth today (football related) and they were selling slimline 100L waterbuts (complete with stands etc) for £4.50. That's not a mistake, £4.50 :o :o We got two and will be going to our local Tesco tomorrow to see if they're...

Re: Rain water butts
Wouldn't disagree . I haven't a dog so don't get the chance to sweep the leaves in the park but I do get several good bags through work. The idea of using the contents of the gutter for the garden rather than just binning it seems to have occurred to myself and several others independently . Really ...

Re: Rain water butts
Going just a tad off topic but the subject of muck in the gutters does remind me of a discussion on another forum. Given that the accumulated stuff in the gutter is generally quite fine (chicken bones aside) and free from stones etc and has a high level of rotted leaves a poster talked of using it a...

Re: Rain water butts
Interesting that shocker. I've cleaned out a few gutters in my time and a customer had asked me if there was such a thing to stop the buildup . I wasn't aware of this stuff but I have to say I'm not fully convinced it would work. It might keep out big leaves , although they could still catch in thos...

Re: Rain water butts
I am looking at adding some guttering and a water butt to my shed. The standard 150mm guttering seems overkill so I was looking at the 76mm instead with 50mm downpipe in place of the standard 68mm. The shed is a 14' x 10' with lean-to roof so it's not huge. Anyone see a problem with using the mini-...

Re: Space saving ways to grow food.
Cheers Deeps , there's a couple of forums I use and a few more I just visit so I do sometimes forget just where I have found stuff.

Re: Don't overestimate your wood pile
Yes I've seen that. To be fair when I said sawdust I actually mean more of the stuff that comes out of a power planer rather than actual dust. There's a bit of dust but not much really , perhaps I should be more specific . I tend to fill small boxes with that and shavings as a starter more than anyt...

Re: Don't overestimate your wood pile
The homemade ones are pretty poor, but if you are using up scrap paper then at least they are being put to good use. I have found that mixing sawdust in with the mix massively improves the quality of the bricks. Edit - I have also found that putting the paper through a shredder rather than just tea...

Re: Found - Black S10 Gas Mask Bags
