Re: Sheds and Green houses

I think the only way to make anything completely insect proof would be to ask Jean Luc for one of his force fields , they'll always seem to find a way in although happily not all are bad. If you take the right safety precautions and take it double bagged to a registered disposal point there's nothin...

Re: Sheds and Green houses

grenfell, I think that clearing up the garden *is* prepping in the way that maintenance itself is a prep. Food security: how could you grow things in there safely if you're coming across glass all the time? And the security of your children? You want them out in the back garden to play sometimes, a...

Re: Sheds and Green houses

Another thought which occurred to me the other night. As I said the shed is in the more obscure part of the garden , partly surrounded by fences, trellis and trees and as such doesn't really get direct sun so might not be subject to quick changes in temperature. Not really prepping related but an up...

Re: Sheds and Green houses

I did once buy a metal shed as a quick fix when we first moved in the house and I too found condensation was a problem but put a layer of insulation on top covered with corrugated bitumen sheeting and it's been bone dry for the last decade. Grenf, could you possibly give us a bit more detail on tha...

Re: calling any scrimpers (cheapskates)

you get more fuel in a litre on a warm day, so buy then if possible. Unless I'm missing something, this should be the other way round - a substance is more dense when it's cold (i.e. expands when it gets warm), so there's more fuel in your litre when it's cold. That would sound right but to be hone...

Re: Sheds and Green houses

We have a pretty decent supplier close to us , good prices and can be made to whatever shape and size you want. We brought another recently for the house we rent out and as usual my wife went in with a wad of cash and wouldn't hand it over 'till we got a chunk knocked off. She's done that with every...

Re: Home Security Upgrades

I won't add anything to the weapon or otherwise debate but rather I'll mention a couple of things I've come across. One was a customer who had their house entered by the very simple act of the burglar ( technically I think they should be termed housebreaker as the offence occurred during daylight) w...

Re: CCTV Signs

I have two "Beware of the Dog" signs* on each gate... I'll see you in court as we watch a jury, our peers, deem me - subjectively - as a reasonable man for the aforementioned "warning" signs (and actions) of a territorial dog but for the actions of an uninvited visitor on my pri...

Re: CCTV Signs

I think you're right legally and common sensically  pretty much like a beware of the dog sign, if you've got one and it's likely to bite an intruder, if you haven't warned, you could be in trouble yes? I was told by a guy in the security business that you shouldn't have a "beware of the d...

Re: Heated jackets

I'm assuming when it was mentioned that you make clothes from wooden blankets it actually means wooden cloth rather than blanket material? I too make clothes for re-enactment and use wool and linens. Some wool can be really fine and can almost be mistaken for linen. I don't tend to use blanket mater...
