Re: 3 sources of water.
[quote="Deeps] a wee trick I learned from this site, put the frozen bottles in the fridge to keep it cold while there's a loss of lecky. We've not had one since I've prepped for it (damn you lecky board, I wanted to test it !!!!). I've tested it for you, it really does work. I once managed to ...

Re: 3 sources of water.
Good post! I have stored water ... about 30 litres (just for me). I have a mini Katadyn filter. I have purification tabs. I have sand, charcoal and cloth to set up 2 expedient filters from empty supermarket water bottles. And there's a stream very close to me that I need to think/learn how to get t...

Re: using what food comes your way.
Thanks Fapplan, will try that out. I get a lot of free fish, can't remember when I last bought fresh fish and we eat a lot of fish, only need to buy tinned tuna. I get from a few sources, one from a hobby fisherman - who doesn't eat fish! Was given 4 rainbow trout just yesterday, wonder how much th...

Re: 3 sources of water.
Like Jansman I've got some 25 Ltr containers (4) and also other water bottles taking it up to about 150 ltr's in the house. Secondary source would be the pond, it's a reasonable size (I should know, I dug it. ) but would require to either go through the sawyer or puritabs, I don't have a ready...

Re: Charging a phone from a candle
This looks.....fascinating, I'd be lying if I said I knew how it works but that could be said for a lot of things.
I'm quite interested in the solar route but open to new ideas, especially as I stay in Scotland, not the Sahara.

Re: A couple of recommended power preps
Thanks for the reviews mate, I've got several of those wee torches, I've also just bought another 3 of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RCUZ2CC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 They take either 3 AAA or a single rechargeable 18650. I've invested in some of these...

Re: Solar panels on East-West roof.
I just got my first quarters worth of lecky money, £268 lovely smackeroonies and that's in sunny Fife. I'll have to see after a year but as a rough guide, if that's a spring quarter, autumn will be roughly similar and using this as a baseline, I'm thinking roughly a grand a year subsidy for ...

Re: Financial investment
Been doing the same the last few weeks, around £10 worth of extra tins/packets and the same in bottled water . The wife's ill health and a possible redundancy on the cards for myself our finances will be taking a beating, personally I would rather have a fridge/freezer/cupboard and larder full of f...
