Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Wood burning/multi fuel burner is finally being installed this week. Chaos as we're having to have a flue built up through the middle of the house - we're a town house (post terrace  ) so an extra story to build up through. I am now feeling a bit more prepped for the winter as we won't be total...

Re: First Aid courses

I did paediatric and outdoor first aid which is a 2 day course. (£165 though for the two certificates so not cheep, I know.) That covers of the younger folk and also looks a bit more at catastrophic bleeding, outdoor related injuries. But I understand the the 2 or 3 day first aid course tend to look...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Preps are keeping up with the allotment, and planning what else I can squeeze into the small space I have. Reorganising tinned and dried area storage to make more room in the garage for the tinned and bringing the dried stuff that was in plastic storage boxes into the house. Rotating the deep freeze...

Re: Q4 Jack of all trades, master of none.

I have always been that sort of "good all rounder" from school to working career. I am very much in the mind set of I'll have a go if someone can show me how all the better. I am a "monkey see, monkey do" kind of gal, though these days as age creeps up, this monkey has to see it ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Looking at non food items/non toiletries - you know the practical sort items that get overlooked. GillieBee mentioned Super glue. I am making a DIY type list of extras. I mean I have that sort of thing lying about the place all the time but I am thinking to put in in a box like I do with batteries a...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

"I can give you some really solid advice about using toilet roll pots ; Don’t. Plastic pots are far superior, and consistent." I do use them to start my parsnips off. They hate any root messing about so that's why I use the loo roll/kit roll tubes, as I can plant them into the ground with...

Re: Alka Seltzer

If you are good at consuming weird tasting fizzy stuff give them a go. A bit old school these days I think and there used to be an old TV advert that went "plink, plink, fizz" Anything like that makes me retch and I would much rather suffer the indigestion or take Gaviscon even though it ...

Hullo and welcome - you'll find loads of good info on the forum that may help with that learning curve. Us lot on here are always learning from each other no matter how many years we have been trying to be a bit more prepared than the average Joe.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

My prep for future fuel security involved getting someone out to see about a wood burning stove. I am happy to find out that we can have one fitted. Will be more expensive not only coz of rising prices but I need a flu built internally up 3 stories but I knew that would add a lot to the cost. Howeve...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

I have just planted parsnips in loo roll tubes, and planted dwarf tomato seeds. My cauli and cabbage don't look great that I started in a heated propagator on the conservatory window ledge. The first true leaves are coming but the original leaves are looking brown and curled. I have the heating on t...
