Re: Building your own home
Home building was discussed recently on BBC4 following a report that something like 30% of homes are self built in Holland which compares to barely 8% in Britain . It would appear there are more obstacles in this country . Being cynical it's probably done to benefit house building companies and to m...

Re: How about buying a wood?
Not wanting to be funny but if you want to buy a wood for bugging out and nothing else and you are questioning the cost then the idea is pretty much a non starter. If you were going to work the land and get , or try to get , a return from green wood products or camping or whatever then the purchase ...

Re: Review: Five Stages of Collapse, Dmitry Orlov.
Agreed very good article. Some of featherstick's last comments really reinforces the idea that there must be degrees of collapse as well as stages. The British empire didn't , in my eyes , collapse , more it just sort of dissipated . Yes there were a few colonial wars and British troops died in far ...

Might be the thin end of the wedge or it may come to nothing , discussed yesterday morning on radio 4 , but the first British banks have made a statement,

Re: Get home bag
I guess you shouldn't have a conversation about bog roll unless you touch on bog roll conservation A guy I worked with once was telling me about an incident when he was in the army . They were issued with provisions , rations etc and part of that included three sheets of toilet paper. One squaddie ...

Re: Get home bag
I was thinking more that it wouldn't really , well , do the job. Sticking with toilet paper but at the same time going off topic a bit . We all tend to keep a stock of such stuff as part of our preps but how about keeping an amount ( if you can get hold of it ) of old fashioned izal medicated . If t...

Re: Get home bag
Reminds me of a joke about someone on the toilet finding no paper and asking if anyone else has some . When they don't he then asks if they have change for a twenty

Re: Get home bag
One thing that preoccupies me, and I suppose this is a question for all preppers, is just how dire an eventuality do you prepare for? One thing I immediately liked about this forum is that everyone is preparing just as much for the "everyday" things going wrong as for the apocalyptic thin...

Re: Never a borrower or lender be.......
Some time ago working on site I had what I called the "dot system" . When I got a new saw I put a dot on the handle ( as well as my name) . Then when I get the next saw that gets a dot and the first saw gets an additional dot and so on. Thus if I had four saws the one dot would be nice and...

Re: the 23rd of June in the uk
I fear that by calling for a vote we have screwed ourselves. If we vote to leave our economy will suffer, if we vote to stay we'll have lost bargaining power with the rest of the EU. Al the time we were threatening to have a vote we had some leverage and the EU had to give us some concessions, but ...
