Re: Value Range foods compared

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

However,I now grow - or rather *they* grow themselves- perennial onions. Egyptian grow a bulb, which destroys the plant if you should crop it.However, the stems ( similar to a Spring onion) are constant. Seeds will be set too on stems, and the set plant will grow again. Jansman, I'm pleased to report ...

Re: New to the Forum

Great intro, Thanks. Ar5e end of nowhere sounds the ideal place to be a prepper, and you are seriously on the case. Prepping serves us well with minor hiccups like pandemics, floods and outages etc. They were good rehearsals too. If TSHTF, then time to pick your gang(s). And gang could be anything f...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

The worst case is you get flowers. Thanks. I'll give it a go. I might even get some onion seeds for my trouble. I don't yet fully understand the onion growing season. It says on my onion sets packet to sow early spring for harvest the following autumn. But I don't understand how seed grown onions c...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

Replanting last years onions...... Last year, I sowed some onion seedlings out into the raised bed and left them to do their growing. Early in winter, I harvested them and I was very disappointed that they hadn't grown much. They were about the size of 25mm diameter and reminded me of the sets that ...

Re: New to the Forum

3 can-openers :) Hi and welcome. You are off to a good start. Lots of advice on this forum, which is worth a good mooch. One observation. You seem to anticipate our non-prepping peers to not survive long. Probably true, but expect them to go out fighting and looting and forming gangs. We will all ne...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Having prep food tonight, long life curry. Spice Tailor curry has a year or two shelf life. Naans only have about 3 months, so I need to use them up. Not a huge fan of rice, but I have some to use up, so I'm going to try hydrating in my flask. Anyone know how long it takes? preheat the flask. For l...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Sowed a bunch of onion sets.... Not in my allotment or raised bed, but in the border of my front lawn   Flowers: Pah!! Who needs 'em. It's right near my kitchen door so they get a chance of being cared for and harvested as required. Onion seeds also currently propagating in the windowsill....
