First Aid Training

Evening all I was talking to a colleague the other day about first aid training. It appears that different providers generally give different 'levels' of information and training. The question is what first aid skills do you have and what would you like more of? It is very hard to be taught somethin...

Re: UK Equivalent of Neosporin?

Fucidin or fusidic acid would be the best UK match. It’s good stuff but abx cream isn’t always needed. I second savlon, savlon and a flannel was what I was brought up on! Cuts, scrapes or broken bones savlon and a flannel was in my mums first aid kit

Re: Antibiotics

A good stock of painkillers may be a better option. An infection will clear up in a week or two (or not), painkillers will stop someone going into shock while they fight off the infection. If they are not going to recover at least you can make their last days comfortable. Yes if you are in a real g...

Re: Has anyone heard of this site/business?

It's got the registered pharmacy number at the bottom which means it's a legit business. Usually you get what you ask for in terms of meds, but at an extortionate price. I don't know what the rate is on this website but your looking at about 20p for a pharmacy to buy a box of amoxicillin so when you...

Re: Antibiotics

Absolutely, thats really useful. I haven't stocked any antibiotics (new shorthand! "abx", thanks for that :) ) but I have loads of the first aid OTC stuff - ibuprofen, paracetemol, the sort of things that BritCit mentioned. I also have a lot of bandages and dressings - I had a cyst a few ...

Re: Antibiotics

Don't get to hung up on thinking you need loads of antibiotics as, no offence, but you have t a clue what you would use for what reason. If your that sick that it's life or death or sepsis develops then IV antibiotics will be required together with other aggressive treatment. A few amoxicillin won't...

SHTF Advanced First Aid Advice

Found this website. Looks pretty good advice, think it's American but most stuff is the same. A lot of it is aimed at SHTF but the basics can be used in everyday first aid

Re: First Aid course recommendation

Do a basic first aid course to get the hang of it then get on YouTube and look up first aid on there. As you get a bit more informed lookup some more advanced videos like airway management with adjuncts and videos about common medical conditions and how they present. Unfortunately to be really good ...

Re: Free downloadable Casualty card:

Nice resource Yorkshire Andy very useful, another one for the work printer. As for AVPU it's really just a development of what you should do for an unconcious casualty....... 1. Hello can you hear me? Response = Alert 2. OPEN your eyes. Command = Verbal 3. Gentle pat / shake of shoulders = Painful ...

Re: hello, I am medic mark, ask me a question.

Tanstaafl: hope you're properly on the mend, that doesn't look good! MedicMark, ParamedicPrepper - I'm dehydrating some alchemilla mollis/lady's mantle today, as the leaves are edible, and I'm getting contradictory info about using it medicinally. PFAF give it a 3 hearts medical rating, says it's m...
