Re: Funny how things work out...

Love this post. Are you on any of the FB gardening groups? I'm a member of the No-Dig and the Brexit Garden groups.

And I think fwiw that french beans are much nicer than runner beans, and just as good for calories and nutrition.

Re: Interesting article on continuing flour shortages.

Re: Interesting article on continuing flour shortages.

Good steer there from Jansman. Do keep in mind though, that weevils are non-toxic and can be eaten without harm. And you find any, you should always eat the smaller one first.

Re: Allotments, where to start ?

Yes, peas need feeding. Everyone thinks they fix enough of their own nitrogen you can just chuck them anywhere and they'll grow but it's not true. Dwarf french beans are pretty easy and forgiving for a beginner, and very productive. Also, I prefer chard to kale if you want a leafy green. Again it's ...

Re: Potato Help please

I don't mean to hijack the thread but... All the articles I read said you can but you risk a build up of disease as seed potatoes are grown in strict conditions and are tested to be disease free. Or is this talk just protectionism from the seed potato growers?! A bit like the old tales about mandra...

Re: Potato Help please

Wifey has had some seed potatos delivered. does she need to "chit" them before planting or can they go straight in the mud ? Chitting is a way of slowing growth in stored seed potatoes until planting season has started. It prevents them putting out great long brittle white shoots if they ...

I'm on a 3/4 year rotation on the allotment to try and keep pests at bay be it onions and bottom end rot or s...

Re: So,have your preps been useful?

Yes the preps have been useful. Building social capital (i.e. being a nosey/friendly bugger) up and down the street over the last few years has helped us get a Mutual Aid group together and look after the three quite infirm pensioners. Krav Maga was useful because I used to drive past a potato/egg s...
