Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?
I'm not going to pretend I went to any effort here on my part, these sites literally came up in the first few hits on Duck Duck Go, but they seem pertinent. I'm reading them now, I just thought I'd post it here to continue the discussion, and as a point of reference. I hope that's ok. https://www.as...

Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?
So it's not as easy as I thought, and it's the static discharge and the earth which are important. Awesome. I really appreciate you taking the time to enlighten me. I had trouble with the premise before, but now I understand. My thanks to you both.

Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?
Get a 1 metre length of copper pipe or similar. Hammer it two thirds into the ground. Run a nice thick cable from it to a metal tin (biscuit tins are good, not least because you have to eat the biscuits) . To ensure it is properly connected rub sand the paint off a small area, drill a hole and affi...

Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?
I should clarify... I've found a LOT of references to Faraday cages on these boards, but no actual builds or 'concrete' resources, or references to Mylar bags as such. Many of the threads are very old and links to external resources defunct. If anyone would care to help me, I'd really appreciate it,...

Improvised Faraday Cage...?
Hi Folks, I've searched on this site for references to the above and found very little, but please excuse me if this topic has been raised elsewhere and I missed it... Sorry, total tech-noob here... Does anyone have any experience of building a Faraday cage, and could they please tell me, would a se...

Re: Woodlands??
I've looked into this myself, and came to a number of conclusions. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you're buying just a small parcel of woodland it becomes prohibitively expensive, and you have all of the associated problems previously mentioned. It won't provide you with many resources over the course ...

Re: Essex Ham Radio Free Learning Course
You could pass the advanced exam with that type of backg round! The exams are also worded in such a way that if you are able to read the insinuations in the questions you can quite easily guess the answers. Sussed that very quickly but are designed to catch you out things like UK power 110ac 230dc ...

Re: 'Viking' Prepper Longship Sets Sail.
[/quote] Where abouts in the country are you? I don't need specific but your nearest big town helps. Also if you look on your mobile there should be an app called "repeater book" or similar, this will have frequencies near you. Repeaters listen on one frequency and transmit out again on an...

Re: 'Viking' Prepper Longship Sets Sail.
No problem and ask away. Ham is also very personal to your requirements, how big is your garden, do you get on well with your neighbours, do you have money for expensive components, do you enjoy building electronic projects etc etc. As you progress you will find your way, ideally chat with your loc...

Re: 'Viking' Prepper Longship Sets Sail.
I am not keen on DMR as the sound is robotic at times, the RD5R is difficult to use, program and to change channels on. I am also very anolog based. On your training, hopefully you can try out other peoples radios and see what you like. When you meet a ham who tells you their radio is the best, and...
