Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Just booked my flu and covid booster. I'm a bit nervous about having them at the same time (seems to be one in each arm), but given my university is going back to face to face teaching pretty entirely, and students are germ magnets, I could do with the protection.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I'm charging everything in sight as we're due thunderstorms in the early hours tomorrow (woohoo! Rain!) and I'll unplug everything overnight in case of power outages. The bucket is under the leaky gutter again as it looks like I need to get someone in to clear them, and I can't afford it yet  T...

Going by my last pair of genuine ones yours will probably last longer . They are not what they were 20 years ago.... I used to sell them the quality has gone down the pan Exactly. I'll be less upset about a £25 pair of shoes disintegrating than a pair of £100+. And they do actually look more sturdy...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

And on a personal note, I just tested positive for covid - 2nd pink line arrived after 2 minutes. I'm not a happy bunny, and I'm off to bed, taking my electric fan, my kettle, my phone and my mug and a couple of teabags with me. I may be gone for some time, though not for the same reason as Captain...

Re: Compost heap safety

I did see photos on Twitter from someone whose green bin (garden waste) had gone up on the Tuesday and taken out the fence next to it. I suppose being constrained by a plastic bin, it would have got hotter. Quite scary!

Sat here trying not to cry at the Look East interview with an old boy whose entire house has gone up from a spread wildfire. Poor old bugger lost his wife a few years back and now he's lost everything else. This is him in the local paper: https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/keith-gant-ashmanhaugh-norfolk-f...

Re: Health. Self help.

Just remembered something I once read about the 1918 Spanish flu Pandemic, true story. The found the men who worked in a certain warehouse in the London docks, did not get the flu. This warehouse was full of cinnamon.. So take from that what you will  ;) Cinnamon is meant to be a very good a...

Re: Health. Self help.

I quite like aromatherapy. Not in a 'it cures everything' way (because MY WORD IT DOESN'T), but in a 'some things make me feel a bit better' way. I have a diffuser and I made a cough blend using oils that are reputed to be good for respiratory complaints. It's helped this summer when hayfever has em...

Re: How you keeping cool .

It's so much hotter today than yesterday. Mum is getting quite jiffly and bored which is making it hard for me to work. So I may abandon work this afternoon and take us off for a drive in my air-conditioned car with plenty of water and catch up on work later after I take Mum home. I'm very lucky tha...

Could it work here.
I read about this, but apparently the UK is unusual in having windows that open outwards which would make shutters impossible to use.
