Re: Solar panels.

Look at photonic universe, you will still need a charge controller, I have one of their 200 watt panels on my camper, in winter it won’t run my fridge so you’d have to work out how much juice you need etc. In brighter days it keeps my 230ah battery full even with the fridge running.

Re: Torches.

Fenix do some rechargeable torches, not cheap but very well made and the more expensive ones are bloody bright.

Re: Good kitchen knives

I was a chef for 17 years, I couldn’t fault Gustav EmilErn, my knife of choice, had the 12 inch serrated carver, boning, chefs and paring knives, all top quality.

Re: Potential UK power failure

Being a part time van dweller now, I have a 200 watt solar panel on the roof linked to a 230ah leisure battery, I have a 12 volt compressor fridge (bloody expensive for how big it is), a 500watt diesel heater, various led lamps etc so I think I would fare better than some should the juice go off for...

Re: Vindicated? Fell away from this site, but not from prepping.

Again, same here, feel a bit guilty as I’ve not been as active here as I used too. Being a prepper though has been a great and helped make the lockdown and subsequent shopping trips far less stressful as I wasn’t short of anything. I will try n be more active and n the future.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

Fitted diesel heater in my camper/full time home, just got to get around to boxing all the bits in, keeping new leisure battery charged up, harder in winter when solar panel does almost sod all. Going to go through all my tinned foods and get them sorted and make room for new stuff. It’s a new year ...

Re: Island living, off grid

Aye I’m with Jansman with that, it is a hard and lonely life with no friends or family support, I guess though that if you do not have anyone then I can see the major appeal of it.

Re: Fire lighting.

I have a Swedish fire steel on my keychain and 9/10 of the time I’m carrying a zippo and always have a can of lighter fuel for it in my rucksack, of course while I’m reading this thread my zippo is at home...
