Re: Stove boiler plumbing advice needed

Just had a thought if you do want to use a pump for the rads then an auxillary water pump from a car (the sort that circulate water round the car heater) would be a good choice if you want 12v and reliable simplicity, just make sure the piping to the hot water tank will still function as a thermosyp...

Re: Stove boiler plumbing advice needed

I guess you will be using a modern double insulated metal chimney? if you are I would keep as much of it indoors as possible to get the most out of the heat it gives out. I've never seen one used in the UK but it fairly simple to rig up a heat exchanger system in the chimney to get more heat out, as...

Re: No Press Cider

Last year a friend make quite a bit of cider, however lacking a press he put all the apples through a (hopefully cleaned) garden shredder, from a taste point of view it seemed to have worked quite well. I was hoping to try it this year but the pear tree was a bit of a disappointment (again) they all...

Re: Trip Wire Alarm

Simple and effective! I don't know how alarming you want it to be but i have seen 'Alarm mines' used effectively for this - ie stopping people nicking your gear while you sleep, they consist of a spring loaded pin that is propelled into a shotgun blank when the trip wire is pulled. Totally legal and...

Re: Stove boiler plumbing advice needed

Hi, I'm not a plumber but I do have experiance with solid fuel central heating. That stove is probably the same as the old Aga's they will happily do a hot water cylinder and possibly one rad or two small single rads, anything else will be asking too much, if you have a look at the size of the boile...

Re: Storing Diesel Fuel

I'm personally dubious of quoted shelf life for fuel, at the moment my 4wd backup vehicle is still running on the 9 year old diesel that was in it when it was parked up (its Perkins diesel powered so little to go wrong). I ran a grey fergie tractor on a 40 year old drum of TVO (basically burning par...

Re: Bunkers - is it just me?

I work in construction and we've done some underground "rooms" the biggest was built into a hill side, double story at the rear about 15m by 30m floor area. Covered with about 1.5m of dirt. There is a tremendous amount of calculations followed by vast amounts of concrete blocks, steels, re...

Hi from a new member.

Good evening everybody, I've been reading the forums as a guest now on the site for about a month, managed to find the site through a searc for uk survivalists or something similar. You seem a bit less sensational or Americanised than some other forums. I'm not knocking other ways of doing things bu...
