Re: Potential UK power failure
Big blackout happened last summer... https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/investigation-9-august-2019-power-outage Fortunately we are heading for some Warner weather this weekend but never say never I've got 60w of solar panels on my outbuilding and a 110ah leisure battery and a box of...

Potential UK power failure
I’m sure off grid energy is something that’s been touched on here before, but an attached article had me thinking... what would I do if we had even a small blackout of say, 12 hours. I have about 6 power banks I keep charged which would power my phone and vape. I have two battery lanterns with spare...

Re: Disposal of waste....
Interesting read on another side effect of this corona virus thing. Mentions burning of waste too , https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/mar/31/uk-faces-cardboard-shortage-due-to-coronavirus-crisis Interesting read there, I’ve kept all my cardboard to one side in my shed, stack is piling up...

Re: Disposal of waste....
My council usually collect our garden waste/food waste bin weekly, recycling and general rubbish every other week. Food waste and garden waste is now every other week due to staff shortages. Luckily most of my vegetable peelings, grass cuttings etc go on the compost heap. How long before general was...

Re: Disposal of waste....
So I’m under the impression my best bet is to store away metallic, plastic and glass recycling or take to the tip where possible.
Compost food waste and some paper waste to keep the heap balanced.
Burn everything else (where possible) to save bin space as much as possible

Disposal of waste....
Good afternoon!
I’m waiting for the imminent cancellation of weekly bin disposal.
I have a compost bin I use for as much as I can but it’ll only hold so much.
What’s my next route for waste disposal, a incinerator?
Surely there’s only so much I can burn?

What little I have I’ve been baking my own loafs every few days. Flour is Defiantly a pr...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.
Cut the grass and measured up for my raised beds (about 1.2 meters by 4 metres) Everyday on my lunch break at work this week, I’ve popped around to a few local shops and bought a few tinned and dried goods here and there too, just to ‘beef up’ the supplies. Went to my local Tesco’s at 8.30pm this ev...

Re: Hello from the Midlands
Welcome! How do you feel you could have done More? There’s still time to top up on your preps! I for example didn’t have anywhere near the food or baby supplies I needed. Over the last three weeks, I’ve gradually topped up everything to a level I’m now comfortable with for the time being. Without bu...
