What do you look for when choosing an area/house?

So following on from my previous thread about building your own home, I'm wondering what people would look for when moving to a ready made home? I don't mean things like local schools, recreational activities etc. as although I know these things are important and will have bearing on decision making...

Re: Building your own home

Sorry I missed a few replies! If only it were that easy JD but basically what poppypiesdad said, and there would be reams of paperwork etc. to get through in the UK before building could even start! Cynical I love the idea of a tandem build, and the land is actually still for sale so perhaps I shoul...

Re: Building your own home

Ugh it would be such a great opportunity, and I know it might never come again, it's just not come at the right time for us now  .

I'd rather have the baby though, she's awesome :D .

Re: Building your own home

Thanks for your input! I talked it over with my husband, thought about it and slept on it... I've decided it's too mad. It may have been doable had we not just had the baby, but to move ourselves, our cats and our 3 month old into temporary accommodation whilst we go about cluelessly building a hous...

Building your own home

We're looking to move in the near future and I've seen a patch of land (few acres) that, if I sold my current home, I could probably afford to buy. I could then probably afford to have a home built on said land. Before I get carried away with this, please tell me I'm mad and it's not feasible for 2 ...

Re: Prepping with a baby

Thanks all :D Cheers for those links Pseudonym, the Urban Prepper baby is so cute, and the Urban Prepper dad so helpful! Arzosah I'd been planning to get some of those baby ear defenders for music events in the summer so that's definitely on the list, and you're right in saying they'll come in handy...

Re: Vaseline pocket sized tins...?

Decant stuff from bigger vessels for easy carrying? My first thought here is to decant coconut oil from a bigger jar that's kept in the kitchen cupboard for cooking, as I use a similar small pot to carry coconut oil around for it's myriad of uses.

Prepping with a baby

Hi all! So I've been away for a while, I was busy having a baby! She's coming up 3 months now and I'm starting to think about my preps again, having decimated lots of our stocks over the past few months when getting to the shops has been more difficult due to being enormous and then caring for a sma...

Re: Very long lasting whipped egg whites :)

Thanks Nick, it looks like you can make a number of different things using chickpea water (it's not just for thinning your hummus!), I'm going to try out some recipes :) .

Re: What preps are you doing this week? part 2.

My husband is works in an independent food shop. He told me that some items would last for much, much longer than their use by dates, and in fact would last much longer than the material they are packed in. So for some items, the use by date is actually related to the time the packaging would degrad...
