Re: Nuclear threat

There is talk in the papers that Putin will blow up a nuclear power station in The Ukraine. These stories come along on a regular basis, often on 'slow news' days I suspect. However unlikely I can't discount it, and have two lots of potassium iodide 65mg, 60 tablets in each. Is there anything else ...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

Dry in open air and turn over. Lots of open air. When bone dry, store in non - synthetic bag or box ;) ;) Cheers. I'd hoped the garage would have been warm and airy enough, and sadly it's raining here. I'll need to get creative. Possibly running my dehydrator with the front open to circulate a bit ...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

Help defending my stored spuds..... So, I harvested a cardboard fruit box full of spuds, out of damp ground. They were all in good condition. I figured that I'd leave them unwashed in the box, in my warm enough garage, to dry out, later to bag them in hessain. It didn't quite work. They never got bo...

Re: Being hounded to get a smart meter

To be honest I'm only really weary of the claims that it can save energy usage , the adverts do say "consumer action required" but it's never really prominent. I suppose it works the same way as using cash over card. Using cash doesn't give you any more money but the visual impact of seei...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

I let foliage die back naturally,as I see it as nutrition for the developing tubers. I am sure I can be taught another way. ;) Cheers Jansman. I'm leaving those spuds to grow a bit more as I struggle to eat and store the lotty ones. Only ONE courgette prospered this year, but it's still more than p...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

Today's harvest.... Just need to ramp up production a bit.... Well rather a lot really. Parsnips now over 5 feet tall. I THINK they are making seeds. Wish they'd hurry up. Because of other commitments, I've grossly neglected my allotment and garden and that's led to this, and this... An overlooked ...

Re: TooGoodToGo

A slight TGTG 'speriment today: My local Carvery pub/restaurant does TGTG of two sorts: Carvery meat trimmings or Vegetarian carvery. The meat trimmings one is rare as hens teeth, but tonight I opted for the veggie option.... I didn't ram jam the box, but easily fitted 1.5kg of veg and gravy in the...

Re: Allotment: Woo Hoooo!!! :) :) :)

As I said, the allotment has turned into Weed Central over the last two weeks of neglect.  Strawberries, A mass of weeds.... Raspberries cohabiting with bindweed.... Spud bed looking like a WW1 battlefield full of weeds and big holes. Onion bed 50% weeds, including some nasties. Maresta...

Re: Allotment: Woo Hoooo!!! :) :) :)

When you start getting spuds, you are getting somewhere. :D I'm getting somewhere  Well 11 days since I visited the plot and the weeds have gone insane. Pretty much all my spuds had died back and the weeds made it hard to see where they were. Fortunately I'd laid them out in a grid pattern, so ...
