Re: Fall - Winter Preparations

Just bought winter tyres for car, bit early but needed new ones so just went for it, keeping going at the log store, reckon we got about eight months supply, building the food supply up too, living where we do, the highest market town in the country, you need a good supply of everything in winter, w...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Just done monthly Tesco/Aldi shop, four pack of beans, rice pudding, the usual tins of corned beef (corned beef is sooo amazing, huge shelf life, full of protein etc) pasta, mince, chopped toms, all going in prep basket number 2, these are just the extra supplies bought in to store away. Will be the...

Re: The Black Stuff

Aye, coal burns hotter than wood, only use if needed, hate putting oil Central heating on, cos it usually gets left on and oil cost so much, plus buying wood as we do, I get to play with my chainsaw. :-)

Re: The Black Stuff

Have a few shovel fulls of coal, but have several tons of logs for our Esse woodburner and the other two woodburners we have, in winter i reckon around a ton per month usage, oh and we also have the other black stuff, oil, bloody expensive though compared to wood. We use wood because i can buy it in...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Always do Decaff, the great thing about tinned food is the huge shelf life it has, you can to an extent ignore best before dates. I'll build up a nice supply then start munching it to rotate the age. Must get some more meths and paraffin for the Tilley lamps too, while I remember, winter is coming, ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Also planning my next Tesco shop, have got my first tinned food crate safely in shed, starting next one this week, the usual, plenty of corned beef, ham, beans, tuna etc. Tend to live off frozen (so if power goes i don't have tons of thawing food preps to eat quickly) and dried and fresh food during...

New EDC Torch review.

Been after a new decent EDC torch for a while, read the reviews etc and decided on the Fenix PD35. So my views on this torch??? Amazing, this is the 2014 version, so it kicks out 960 lumens on full (turbo) setting, cant equate what that means in layman's terms, but for a comparison, my 2D cell led m...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Just slowly building up a supply of tinned and dried food, continuing with building up a supply of dried logs for the fire, and some more paraffin for the Tilley lamps in case of power cuts etc, batteries for torches etc.

Re: Winter.

Aye Jansman, if you believe old wives tales, this winter is supposed to be a hard one, according to local farmers, a good silage (it was) means a hard winter, bumper crop of Rowan berries, the same etc. Well, living in the highest market town in the country our winters are good anyway, so down to pr...

Re: Choosing a compound or recurve bow

You really need to go to a Archery shop and try lots of different bows, i have a compound, 60lb draw weight, ok for me, but not the missus. Your missus may on the other hand be better with a compound, because of the 'let off' that a compound has, it makes holding the bow at full draw a hell of a lot...
