Re: Using old Diesel

I suppose it is naughty because we assume you're storing the petrol without one of those fancy licences and forum rules don't promote illegality. Saying that in the lockdown when supermarkets dropped the price to 99p a litre I did buy more than the 30L myself... Pragmatically speaking if you're stor...

Re: Using old Diesel

It would wouldn't it. It's a question that I've seen asked on a couple of other forums and nobody seems to have the answer. Perhaps that means there are a number of hoops to jump through or people are wary of inspectors turning up at their houses or perhaps people are just happy to turn a blind eye ...

Re: Using old Diesel

Yes I'll admit I skimmed it a bit at first and read it that I could store 30L in the garage and 30L in the van but on closer inspection it's 30L in total  To be honest I prefer to keep fuel in metal containers if it's stored for any length of time especially if it's petrol. I also prefer conta...

Re: Using old Diesel

As I read it it's also ok to store 30L on the vehicle in cans in addition to the vehicle's own tank which appears to me to be a loophole which allows effectively 60Ls of storage ? Just reread and I think I'm wrong there. It says up to 30L in a maximum of two containers ( are there 15L jerry cans?) ...

Re: Using old Diesel

I realise we're veering towards petrol rather than diesel but I think we are all agreed there's no limit to storing diesel and it's pretty much safe to use . Interesting reading the government website though concerning petrol storage . We all seem agreed that 30L can be stored without involving the ...

Re: Using old Diesel

I can see how that would work although it doesn't look to be any cheaper than the Aspen. A thought did occur to me however. I could probably trawl through the net to find the answer but perhaps you'll know Andy. As I understand the maximum amount of petrol that can be stored legally is 30 L. As that...

Re: Using old Diesel

I tend to think a lot of it depends upon the container. For long term I keep liquid fuel in metal cans topped up as much as possible to reduce the air gap and stored in a pretty stable environment. I distrust plastic containers a bit more for long term storage especially for petrol. As far as I unde...

Re: Using old Diesel

Probably five years ago I posted on here about using old diesel. I did a quick search but couldn't find it so gave up  but basically I'd had someone run into my van , 09 plate transit , so it was off the road. The insurance provided a hire van and I thought an ideal opportunity to try out some...
