Re: Prepper behaviour vindicated

Allegedly is the word. I've used liberal amounts of mine around the garden and we have on a number of occasions watched a fox going around and even climbing into one compost heap , presumably looking for mice or whatever. Perhaps our fox has a dodgy nose :D .

Re: Another threat to self reliance in the home

I think a lot of the problem has arisen from some people burning inappropriate woods during those normal times. I won't let treated or painted timber into my wood burner but some happily shovel old painted joinery , fence panels and sopping wet green timbers into theirs. Obviously it would depend up...

Re: Prepper behaviour vindicated

As I tend to work outdoors and in people's gardens I prefer not to go into their houses to use the toilet for fear of tramping in dirt and muck so I keep a bottle in the van . A bucket is ideal , I have used the regular plastic milk bottles but yes the opening is on the small side and I have had the...

Re: Another threat to self reliance in the home

The amount of unburnt avgas and particulates from aircraft runs into hundreds of thousands of tons a year straight into the atmosphere where it reacts with sunlight and becomes even more toxic. " Never got a sensible reply from him. Not London , but some time ago I was working on the roof of C...

Re: Plastic

We have to put our food waste in the general waste nowadays . It used to be able to go into the garden waste bin until the council changed the rules , not that it made much difference to us. Vegetable waste goes into the compost and any bones and the like go on the wood burner . Breaks them down lov...

Re: Plastic

Found that out some time ago. I used to just throw them in the compost but was constantly finding these little bits of mesh while digging. Ok so not the biggest problem in the world but when I realised what they were I started to dry them out and empty the tea leaves out. Course that did give ammuni...

Re: Plastic

I am not 100% sure about this but I believe that if it was put in the freezer it would take a very long time to break down, if ever. I am a gardener at a market garden type establishment and we try to be as green as possible. Our fruit and veg punnets are made with plant matter which feels just lik...

Re: Plastic

Yes I've got a shelf full of kilner jars but as far as I know just plastic in the freezer. I see to recall a comment or two on here about keeping food in it's original packaging and it's something I do myself , after all it's sealed , sterile and safe but no good if that packaging disintegrates in a...
