Re: Hello from a new member with medical background
We have capacity for some self sufficiency in terms of growing. The hours are definitely an issue but we do try and grow when we can, if just to keep our hands in. We have just enough space to put up a couple of polytunnels if needed, but that would be pretty much all of our space. More land would ...

Re: Hello from a prepping nubie
Me too :) its pretty near accurate as well :) For something a teensy bit more relevant, check out this sort of website for your area https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/community-resilience search county resilience, something like that. It might be completely useless, but police, transport, a...

Re: Stress testing yourself
I know there wasnt an explosion, as it would have been in the news, but, i also dont know what happened after this. It could have been someones clothes accidentally left behind when rushing for a coach. It could have been 15Kg of nails and ball bearings with 5Kg of fertilizer in the middle of it. I...

Re: EDC for a hightened security area?
The attitude thing is very true, absolutely, thats a good point. Being searched - sometimes *everyone* gets searched - terrorists might masquerade as released hostages, to try to escape - you often see photos of hostages being escorted to safety and they've got their hands clasped over their heads, ...

Re: EDC for a hightened security area?
The only thing that I have that *looks* aggressive is my CKRT seatbelt cutter - http://www.edcgear.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CR2055K especially as the mad little plastic cap fell off within a month or so. I used to have a pretty pink thing, but it was plastic, and it broke in two :( This ...

Re: Ignorant Sheeple.
When i was at Primary school in rural Kent I was told be the head teacher never to be a sheep and blindly follow as it was better to be a goat and follow your own path wise advice that has stayed with me for fifty years. Absolutely. But sheeple is an offshoot from sheep, not the same thing. Never h...

Re: Hello from a new member with medical background
Welcome! Great to be in a semi-rural environment, absolutely. As Kernewek said, it'd be really interesting to know what you regard as a good first aid kit for non-medical people (and the extras for a medical person too, actually :) ). Do you get time to grow your own veg at all? My impression of the...

Re: Ignorant Sheeple.
The term "Sheeple" really sounds quite disparaging, demeaning and even disrespectful of non-prepper folks. It's an expression I therefore try not to use (too often) Instead I rely more and more on the name "Zombie." My dictionary describes zombies as "...a person who...

Re: Next year's project
Thats a great project, jansman! Thinking of fertilisers and mulching etc - do you have your own comfrey to make liquid fertiliser? How near are you to the seashore/how often do you go? I'm thinking broken shells to add to the mulch, and seaweed for just laying on the ground between rows or wherever.
