Re: group survival?

a lone wolf needs less; less food, less water, less noise, less tracks. groups tend to argue more, someone always thinks they should be in charge, this causes friction. A lone wolf might find it hard to get enough sleep, cover all the skills bases, do all the work, or benefit from different points ...

Re: Money, food and the universe

Just a note to say that while I agree that the purchasing power of money in the bank is decreasing thanks to interest rates that are lower than inflation rates, the standard financial advice is to have enough in a reserve to cover 6 months' worth of outgoings in case of sickness, unemployment, or ot...

Re: Compared To 10 Years Ago...

Ten years ago I was contemplating marriage and lived in a little house on crappy street in a run-down part of Britain. Although I've always had the prepping gene, I didn't have any real preps to speak of other than some extra food and water stocks. Now I have a wife and 2 children, and live in a big...

Re: My GHB (long post better put the kettle on)

I have a very small survival bag(about the size of a "bum" bag)permanently in the car stuffed under the seat, it contains: 2 foil blankets, 2 lighters, torch and batteries, 1 knife, 1 spark striker, 2 light sticks, 1 small sharpening stone, 1 mini survival tin with contents. also in the c...

Re: My GHB (long post better put the kettle on)

Indeed, we don't know Paratus's circumstances but the discussion is a reminder to prep for our own. I work in London, and live about 40 miles away. My EDC/GHB contains penknife, torch, lighter, FAK, bottle of water, couple of Snickers bars and a few other bits. The most important component is 100 qu...

Re: Paranoia

There are some people who are paranoid and call themselves preppers. On the internet, especially youtube videos, the mad people come to the surface and are more viewed than the sane people. Thats the way of the internet and popular media in general. Jerry Springer for instance pulls large crowds, b...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

FerFal from Argentina talks about entertainment quite a bit in his book - he says that when it's too risky or expensive to go out, having a DVD to watch is important. Just a thought on the entertainment side. We cleared and planted a lot of the garden today - flowers mostly (also a morale prep) but ...

Re: Peas (Legumes)

It's true that legumes fix nitrogen, but legumes grown for food still need feeding as the crop takes a lot of fertility out of the soil. Where they are useful is that in fixing nitrogen they don't need well-composted material. I've grown peas very well in compost trenches - kitchen compost straight ...

Re: MRE's

Lots of Indian groceries sell pouched ready meals now which come in higher calories and more food than LWWF - we've used these with a pouch of Uncle Ben's ready cooked and had Indian curries on the side of a hill. They are high in salt though, which might be useful when TSHTF.
