Mainstream?

This list for a grab bag comes from the Cheshire Resilience Forum ie a government/ local authority/ Police etc etc website. https://cheshireresilience.org.uk/ It is their recommended contents for a grab bag. The list itself is nothing special. The fact that is sitting on a mainstream official websit...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Indirect prep but one that actually alarmed me. I have an older brother who lives in London. He has no prepping inclinations and happily lives in London. We got talking about the current situation and the risks we face. I pointed out his flat was all electirc so if there was a power cut he would not...

Re: Prepper radio Schedule ?

Hi.
As others have said please introduce yourself in the new members forum.

I am an M0 licence holder but like most others do do not give my callsign as it would end my anonymity.

Likewise regular networks / skeds are a rarity as again most preppers like to be anonymous.

Regards

Re: Will the NHS cope

Start by defining what you mean by fail or cope. The NHS "fails" all the time by not doing as well as it should. On the other hand to most people fail means stop working. that will not happen. The NHS diverts resources on the basis of what is needed. If Omicron stresses the system non urgen...

Sorry to hear you are having such a rotten time. Best wishes to both of you. The pulse oximeter is interesting. They are now much cheaper. Boots currrently carry one for £20. When my brother in law who lives nearly 40 miles away got sicj with COVID he got his own pulse ox as a way of watching for de...

Re: Novel use of a crisp packet!

If you can find a copy his book "The Red and Green Life Machine" is an interesting and easy read. If anything it is a book about leadership as much as history. He had to get two groups who had a long standing and bitter rivalry to work as a team. Red - Paras Green = Royal Marines. He was M...

Re: Novel use of a crisp packet!

The problem over sucking wounds is odd. The lung is held to the chest wall by suction. The "space"between the lung and chest wall is filled with a tiny amount of fluid and effectively does not exist. If air leaks from the lung either due to trauma / stab wound / bullet wound etc or a spont...

Advice for a hopeless gardener

OK. One of my big weaknesses is gardening. I am hopeless. I can even kill mint. So suggestions please. Be gentle. How can I educate and improve. I have a typical modern garden ie smallish. Full sun on the back of the house I have some container grown herbs. Attempts at container based strawberries p...

Re: Geiger Counters & Dosimeters

Hi I agree you need to think about what you want the geiger counter / dosimeter to tell you and what budget you have. For the first you need some knowledge of dosimetry. Normal background radiation gives a dose of approx 2,700 microsieverts per year in the UK. That's 0.3 microsieverts per hour. Also...
