Re: Hi, new member
However you decide to go about things, it is best not to make it obvious to those around you. In the event of civil unrest/financial crash, or fuel shortages, people may well come looking for that store of food or extra fuel you put aside. Keep mum and appear normal.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4
Finally got my wood burner up and running. It also provides hot water too! Plumbed in? No - just a great big Le Creuset kettle full of water shoved on the top. This takes care of all the washing up and brews! Only downside - in this part of rural France everyone has woodturners, so skip - hunting is...

Re: Rogue Male by Geoffrey Household
Yep thats the one! Its about a 'British chap' who falls foul of both the Nazis and the British police (He tries a pot-shot at Hitler before the war started, thus making him a wanted man both in Germany and Britain). his adventures involve escaping from authority, stowing away on a ship, wearing disg...

Rogue Male by Geoffrey Household
Who has read this? I have had this book since I was 11, and have re-read it many times. It has it all - remaining inconspicuous, gathering supplies, aquiring survival gear, and a big part of it is about 'bugging out'. Although written in 1938, I reckon this book is what instilled in me the prepping ...

Re: Prepping for the next finacial crash?
With regard to Bitcoin and other such currencies, an unlikely but possible solar storm/EMP attack would wipe these out without trace. From a prepping point of view I would think these are even less valuable that the notes and tokens associated with fiat currencies - at least you can burn paper and u...

Re: Car Boot Sale Bargain Hunting
Here in France Car Boot sales are very popular - and also start at the socially acceptable time of 10.00 not half six in the morning like some UK ones I've been to! Anyway... picked up a load of 'camo' gear for about fifteen quid. Now, when I say camo gear I dont mean 'camo gear' as such - which whe...

Re: Prepping for the next finacial crash?
As some of you have said, it isn't aquestion of if, but when. The last crash wasn't resolved, it was postponed. Most Western economies are rolling in a sea of debt, and the only way out of it is either to default on it, or inflate the currency. This subject is touched upon in the thread concerning i...

My local supermarket is selling off barbecue lighting fluid at 80 eurocents a litre. The stuff is basically parrafin. Thought I'd buy a dozen bottles... May be useful to see if the Brit supermarkets are doing the same, or selling of the charcoal too.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4
I was thinking of keeping it empty. Here in western - Central France it gets very cold indeed between mid November and early March, and for long periods temperatures struggle to climb above zero. I would worry about the radiator bursting in one of the hard frosts.
