Ha ha! On a more serious note, we fixed the roof and had it cleaned and painted with that weatherproof stuff. It's brilliant! We've put newer radiators in 3 rooms and generally started redecorating and having a clear-out. I can fit more preps into the priest hole and under the bed.

Loads if weeds are edible. Silver weed, dandelion roots, hairy bittercress, chickweed and cow parsley all grow all over the place. No need for gardening or just let a patch of garden grow wild and the stuff just appears naturally.

Re: Do your children know first aid?
I sent my daughter to St. John's ambulance Badgers from when she was 5, for a few years. It was great at first but they ran out of funds. Still we keep a First Aid book around and a stash of bandages and things around the house.

Soap, eyeliner, lipgloss and perfume. If I'm going to be shot down by zombies I might as well smell nice and have great hair flowing in the wind. Good enough for Sarah Connor in Terninator, good enough for me.
Job loss
My job ended in June. I smiled and walked away like a queen with my shoulders back and head high, my enemies defeated. Having smelled it coming a mile off I saved up, fixed my car up, paid for a holiday (yahoo!). Saved up for over a year and joined forces with a friend to build a business of our own...

Re: The modern survival manual
Hi Daz! Could I have a copy also? I remember the floods from a few years ago and we lasted a couple of weeks and started floundering so another more successful account would be helpful. Thank you!

Upon elderflowers and ginger
I've been given some ginger root so I'll be making ginger beer now. Easy peasy. Elderflowers are out so cordial as well. Hubby hates all the jugs and bowls and bottles everywhere in the kitchen, airing cupboard and pantry but happy silence falls when he pours the results down his neck. Yaay.

Re: Anyone want some kefir grains?
The kefir is working really nicely. I made some drinking yoghurt and cheese. The cheese is great mixed with garlic and herbs and I mixed ground, dried lavender with some, too. Lovely! Got another batch chugging away in my pantry. Thank you!

Hi Featherstick! Are there any grains left? I love making my own stuff and would love to try these. Many thanks!

Re: Post Antibiotic era
I remember a brilliant documentary about fighting bacterial infections with "friendly" viruses. In the60's a team of Russian scientists started using viruses (called T4 bacteriophages) that were specific to certain bacteria and didn't harm the body. A solution of a specific virus was spray...
